Agnes Thoma

Agnes Thoma, 102 year old resident of Little Falls, MN, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, with Father Joseph Herzing officiating. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 A.M. on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with Shelly Funeral Chapel in Little Falls. Agnes was born February 9, 1916 in Swan River Township to the late Paul and Eva (Janta) Bonik. She was the 8th of 9 children. Her father died of the flu of 1918, leaving her mother to be the sole caregiver of the children. They lived on a small farm where everyone worked hard to keep the family alive. Following her first 8 years of schooling at the Brickyard School, Agnes walked five miles to the high school where she graduated in 1934. She had plans of being a teacher, but plans changed after she froze her face while walking to school, she decided against it. She waitressed at the West Side Cafe until her marriage to Albert Thoma on June 14, 1938. Agnes worked alongside Albert on the farm west of Little Falls. She had a huge vegetable garden, canned, enjoyed quilting, baking (especially bread and kolaches), and wasn’t afraid to tackle anything new. She was a devout Catholic, praying the rosary and going to Mass daily. She spent many years volunteering at the food shelf, Cheery Cherry Ladies (hospital), Christian Mothers (altar decorating) and was a secular Franciscan. Agnes is survived by her daughters, Jeanette Krippner and fiancé, Ollie Mondloch of St. Augusta, MN and Irene (David) Becker of Little Falls, MN; grandchildren, Lori (David) Metcalfe, Lynnae (Duane) Hansen, Dan (Andria) Krippner, Julie (Laurel) Krippner, Janelle (Craig) Peine, Karen (Paul) Ketcham, Steve (Ling) Becker, Kevin (Sue) Becker; 23 great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Margaret Carlson. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; parents, Paul and Eva Bonik; sisters, Anna Bonik and Mary (Frank) Plotnik; brothers, Frank (Ann), Martin, Mike (Margie), Vincent, Tony, Stanley (Jen), Joe (Vi); and son-in-law, Leo Krippner.
