Alice Weiss

Alice R. Weiss, 78 year old resident of Harding, MN passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday (June 11) at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding, MN with Fr. Skarias Johnus Cherunilath officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Pierz, MN. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN and from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the church. A rosary will be said at 4:30 P.M., Parish prayers at 6:30 P.M., and the Knights of Columbus, Office of the Dead at 7:00 P.M. Alice Rose was born January 4, 1930 in Pulaski Township to the late Charles and Clara (Dingman) Otremba. She graduated from Little Falls Community High School in 1948 and started working as a teller at First National Bank in Little Falls. Alice was united in marriage to Jerome Weiss on June 14, 1950 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding. Together they worked side by side on the family farm and raised their eight children. Alice also worked at the Pierz Villa as a laundress for 31 years, from 1970 to 2001. She was one of the leaders of the Bazaar committee, and a member of the Harding/Lastrup Snow Dusters and the Club of the Pines. Alice was an avid card player. She made and decorated many cakes for her family’s special occasions. She enjoyed spending time at their lake cabin and visiting with family and friends, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alice is survived by her husband Jerome; sons, Robert Weiss of Pierz, Charles (Ruth) Weiss of Nome, AK, Donald (Lehtitia) Weiss of Brainerd, MN, and John Weiss of Hillman, MN; daughters, LyAnn (George) Kummet of Pierz, MN, Cleo Abel of Ft. Dodge, IA, Lois (Vern) Metcalf of Onamia, MN, and Denice (Loren) Athman of Pierz, MN; sisters, MaryAnn Schweigert of Motley, MN, Esther Preimesberger of Spring, TX, and Phyllis (Leo) Stumpf of Pequot Lakes, MN; 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Vanessa Weiss; brother Ralph Otremba, and a sister, Virginette Otremba. Honorary casket bearers will be Sarah Weiss, Joey Weiss, Tasha Huffman, Chelsea Jo Weiss, Chelsey Weiss, Aaron Weiss, Kaylie Athman, Nathan Athman, Kari Metcalf, and Tanja Ryssok. Casket bearers will be Amy Loch, Cody Weiss, Travis Weiss, Joshua Gruber, Christie Gruber, Chad Weiss, Hannah Athman, and Tyler Weiss.
