Brian Michael Kummet

Brian M. Kummet, 30 year-old resident of Bemidji, MN formerly of Lastrup, MN passed away September 23, 2016 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 30, 2016 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN with Father David Maciej officiating. Burial will take place in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, MN. A visitation will be held from 4-8 P.M. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN and from 9:30-10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 30, 2016 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN. Parish prayers will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday evening. There will also be a Celebration of Life gathering at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Grant Valley Townhall west of Bemidji. Funeral arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN. Brian was born on November 13, 1985 in Little Falls, MN to Robert and Julie Kummet. He grew up in Lastrup, MN and attended Pierz Schools graduating from Healy High with the Class of 2004. After graduation Brian enrolled at St. Cloud State University and later enlisted in the US Air Force. He served in the Air Force as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist and did one tour in Iraq. He was honorably discharged on May 28, 2011. In the fall of 2012 he met the love of his life Rebecca Hiltz and the couple was united in marriage on May 25, 2013. Brian was presently employed at the Sanford Hospital in Bagley, MN as a facilities supervisor. He was a very tech savvy person, who loved the challenge of troubleshooting and keeping up with the ever changing technology. Brian’s greatest passion in life though was his family. He truly loved his wife Becky and their three beautiful daughters. Brian was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bemidji and was a past commander of the Pierz American Legion in 2012. Brian was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Brian is survived by loving wife, Rebecca Kummet of Bemidji, MN; daughters, Taylor Kummet-Hiltz, Hannah Kummet, and Leah Kummet all of Bemidji, MN; parents, Bob and Julie Kummet of Lastrup, MN; sister, Lisa (Kevin) Smude of Hillman, MN; grandmother, Marie Meyer of Pierz, MN; mother-in-law, Robyn (Mike Braun) Edwards of Bemidji, MN; father-in-law, Russell (Donna) Hiltz of Bemidji, MN; brother-in-law, Robert Hiltz of Bemidji, MN; nieces and nephew, Kaitlyn, Joey, Nora, Kadence, & Emma; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Brian was preceded in death by grandparents, Louis and Elaine Kummet and grandfather, Roman Meyer. In Lieu of Flowers Memorials are Preferred To American Diabetes Association and Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.)
