Catherine F. Brixius

Catherine F. Brixius, 91 year old resident of Pierz, MN passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, MN with Father Gerald Dalseth and Rev. Hilary Brixius officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery in Pierz, MN. Friends of Catherine may call from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Christian Mothers will pray the rosary at 4:30 P.M., followed by Franciscan Sister’s Wake at 6:00 P.M. and Parish Prayers at 7:00 P.M. Funeral arrangements are with the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN. Catherine was born February 2, 1916 in St. Paul, MN to the late Frank and Theresa Gangl. The family moved to the Buckman, MN area where she attended country school District #99. Catherine was united in marriage to Erwin Brixius on October 3, 1939 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman. The couple purchased the Brixius family diary farm and resided there until retiring in 1970 to Pierz, MN. Catherine was employed at Gruber’s Market in Genola from 1968 until 1978. She then volunteered with the Franciscan Sisters in Little Falls, MN for many years. Catherine loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, embroidery and gardening. In October, 2003, she moved to Harmony House in Pierz. Catherine was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman, Christian Mothers and a social member of St. Michael’s Catholic Aid . After moving to Pierz, she became member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and St. Joseph Christian Mothers. Catherine F. Brixius is survived by her sons; John & wife, Gladys Brixius of Buckman, MN; Ken & wife, Jan Brixius of Bloomington, MN and Jerry & wife Arlene of Salem, OR; daughter, Sister Gertrude (Helen) Brixius, OSF of Brooklyn Center, MN; grandchildren, Mike Brixius, Karen Johnson, Tony Brixius, Steve Brixius, David (Yumi) Brixius, Brian Brixius and Michele Brixius and a great grandchild, Jessica Johnson; brothers, Joe & wife, Anne Gangl of Buckman, MN and Steve & wife, Mary Ann Gangl of Royalton, MN; sister, Agnes Medek of Pierz, MN; sister-in-laws: Dolores Gangl of Sarte;;, MN and Rose (Brixius) Gohl of St. Cloud, MN. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin Brixius on Dec. 13, 1996; parents, Frank & Theresa Gangl; brothers, Frank, Paul, John and Louis Gangl; sisters, Teresa Przybilla, Mary McDonough and Anna Pohlkamp.
