Claude J. Dahmen

Claude Dahmen, 77-year-old resident of Lastrup, MN, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN with Father David Maciej officiating. Burial will take place in the St. John’s Parish Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4-8 P.M. on Friday and from 9-10:30 A.M. on Saturday at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday followed by Knight of Columbus Office of the Dead at 7:30 P.M. at the Church. Funeral arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN. Claude was born on August 20, 1939 in Little Falls, MN to the late Ferdinand and Catherine (Froehner) Dahmen. He grew up in Pierz, MN where he attended school and graduated from Pierz Memorial High School with the Class of 1957. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Schmidt on June 22, 1974 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in northeast Minneapolis, MN. Claude was very active with the Morrison County Soil and Conservation Board since 1963, serving as chairman several different times. In 1970 he was awarded Farmer of the Year for his ethical and conservation practices in the farming industry. Claude loved his farm and spent much of his days, checking crops and livestock on his Mule ATV, usually with his grandchildren at his side. He enjoyed attending area auctions in his free time and has always kept busy doing mechanic work on his machinery. Claude was a lifelong member and very active at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup as well as the Knights of Columbus in Pierz. For many years he led the rosary every Tuesday evening and sometimes on Sunday at St. John Nepomuk Church in Lastrup. His faith, family, and farm meant more to him than anything else in the world. Claude enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors and often shared his great knowledge of farming and his love for area history with them. He was dearly loved and respected by many and will be dearly missed. Claude is survived by loving wife, Evelyn Dahmen of Pierz, MN; sons, Matthew (Sara) Dahmen of Moorhead, MN, David (Barb) Carwell of Pierz, MN, Anthony Carwell of Pierz, MN, and Andrew (Dee) Carwell of Milaca, MN; daughters, Genevieve (John) Czech of Little Falls, MN, Mary (Jason) Lundquist of Isanti, MN and Teresa (Mike) Lehrke of Little Falls, MN; sisters, Janet (Robert) Maciej of Bowlus, MN and Ethel (Fred) Karpinski of Flensburg, MN; 18 grandchildren, Phillip, Thomas (Stacie), Jessica, Alexandra, Nicole, Christopher, Cody, Brittney, Amanda, Samantha, Nikolas, Gretta, Jakob, Isabelle, Henry, Oliver, Sylvia, Vivian and 9 great-grandchildren. Claude was preceded in death by parents, Ferdinand and Catherine Dahmen; brothers, Wilfred and Kenneth Dahmen; son, Daniel Carwell; and great-grandson, Tyler David Poepping.
