Donald Saehr

Donald Saehr, 86 year old resident of Pierz, MN passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at the Pierz Villa in Pierz, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, MN with Father Ken Popp officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Joseph Parish Cemetery in Pierz, MN. A visitation will be held from 4-8 P.M. on Wednesday and from 9-10 A.M. on Thursday at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN. Funeral arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN. Donald was born on August 11, 1931, in Little Falls, MN to the late Carl and Alvina (Kobilka) Saehr. He grew up in the Pierz area and resided there all his life. Donald was united in marriage to Delores Stuckmayer on September 19, 1955, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN. Together the couple farmed for many years northwest of Pierz where they raised their four boys, Dave, Duane, Dale, and Darrel. Donald was a very talented musician, entertaining many over the years with his band Don’s Concertina. Don also did seasonal custom work for area neighbors and friends, picking corn and baling hay, spending many hours on his 50 John Deere. In 1964, Don had a farming accident picking corn, losing his ability to play the concertina. Not wanting to give up music, Don learned to play the drums and continued playing until the age of 80. Staying active by hunting and fishing, he was proud when his children and grandchildren would get their deer and enjoyed the comradery with his shot of brandy. In 1998, Delores passed away, missing the love of his life, Donald kept himself busy, spending most of his time with his sons and their families, helping out wherever needed. He will forever be remembered for his great sense of humor and his love for his family. Donald is survived by sons, David (Tammy) Saehr of Pierz, MN, Duane Saehr of Pierz, MN, Dale (Laurie) Saehr of Pierz, MN, and Darrel (Amy) Saehr of Pierz, MN; brother, Norman Saehr of Sartell, MN; grandchildren, Stacie (Tom) Poepping, Nick (Brandi) Saehr, Danny (Jodie) Saehr, Scott (Emily) Saehr, Kelsey (Derek) Eisenschenk, Darvin Saehr, Randy Saehr, Beth Saehr, and Holly Saehr; great-grandchildren, Preston, Siri, Gracie, McKinley, Derek and Jack. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alvina Saehr; wife Delores Saehr, and infant great-grandson, Tyler Poepping
