Donald Schmidtbauer

Donald A. Schmidtbauer, 79 year old resident of Hillman, MN passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the Pierz Villa in Pierz, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, May 11, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Morrill, MN with Father Laurn Virnig officiating. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Morrill, MN. A visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Sunday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN, and from 9:30 to 10:30 am Monday at the church. A Parish Prayer Service will be at 7 pm Sunday. Donald was born on November 17, 1935 in Granite Twp., Morrison County, MN to the late Michael and Frances (Boser) Schmidtbauer. He was the 2nd of 8 children. At the age of 15 he left home, went to the Dakota's and did various job while there. After Dakota's he worked on the boats in Duluth. He was united in marriage to Patricia (Brown) on October 15th, 1956 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Morrill, Mn. Don worked in Minneapolis as a welder until he started his own welding business, Don’s Welding and Repair at his residence in Hillman. He worked in the welding shop for 32 years and also farmed. Don suffered a stroke in July of 2000. He enjoyed throwing horseshoes, hunting, making wood, and traveling out west with his wife. Don could be found a majority of the time working and inventing in his welding shop. Donald is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons, Alan (Julie) Schmidtbauer, Steven Schmidtbauer (Erika Englund) all of Hillman, MN; daughters, Karen (Kevin) Poster of Pierz, MN; guardian of Tony's daughter, Ashley (Jairus) Fussy of Hillman, MN; sisters, Rose Majka of Hillman, MN Lyla (Alan) Vogtlin, Ruth (Ron) Monson both of Pierz, MN and Rita Schmidtbauer of Coon Rapids, MN; sister in law, Joanne Schmidtbauer of Little Falls, MN and Marge Schmidtbauer of Pierz, MN; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Donald was preceded in death by parents; sons, Tony (1988) and Mike (1991); brothers, Herb, Dave (Doris), and Daniel Schmidtbauer; infant grandchildren, Tonya and Troy Schmidtbauer. Pallbearers will be Alan Schmidtbauer, Steven Schmidtbauer, Joshua Schmidtbauer, Alex Schmidtbauer, Clint Poster, and Cody Poster.
