Doris Butcher

Doris Butcher, 88 year old resident of Onamia, MN passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at the Regina Medical Center in Hastings, MN. Arrangements are pending with the Shelley Funeral Chapel of Onamia. Doris Lorraine (Wood) Butcher of Hastings, Minnesota died November 29,2009 at the Regina Care Facility in Hastings, MN. A memorial service will be held on December 2, 2009, at the Onamia Alliance Church with Mark Somerville officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetry in Onamia, MN Doris was the daughter of the late Herbert and Margaret Wood, and was born October 1, 1921 in Hillman, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Butcher, and stepchildren Arlene Hanks, Darlene Sanches-Arona, Anthony Butcher, and Carol Butcher. She leaves to mourn her departure two sons, Mark (Beverly) Somerville, of El Dorado, Kansas, and Steven (Diane) Somerville of Hastings, Minnesota. Also grandchilden: Tina (Jerrod) Rauth, Sam (Emma) Somerville, Rachael Vaughters, Jonathan (Missy) Somerville, and Rachael (Jeremy) Lehmann. Great-grandchildren: C. J., Christopher, and Jeremiah Rauth, Elijah C. and Tobiah Somerville, Elijah N, and Hannah Vaughters, Alexa and Ally Somerville, Seth Andrie, Preston, Jeremy, and Jade Lehmann. Stepchildren: Linda, Lorraine, William Jr., and Leon Butcher. Four sisters: Margaret Sinclair of Cowell, Arkansas, Lois Wood of Onamia, MN, Ruth (William) Alheim of Albany, NY, and Jean (Ted) Poland of Brooklyn Park, MN, as well as many other friends and relatives. Doris’s death not only marks the end of a long and useful life on earth, but the beginning of a glorious eternal life in heaven where she will continue to serve the Lord that she turned her life over to when she was just a child and continued to serve as long as she lived here on earth. It will add to her joy to meet many of us at heaven’s gates, as well as those who have gone before and await her there. Doris was triumphant over many struggles in her life some of which included a hospitalization at a TB sanatorium in her late teens, where she met and married Wayne Somerville, the father of her two sons. After that marriage ended, she raised her two sons in Walker, MN. She later met and married William Butcher, and assisted him in raising the last of his children. They resided at Onigum Bay, near Walker, MN until William’s death in 2003. Following his death she returned to Onamia, which had been her childhood home. When it became apparent that she needed more assistance than was available in Onamia, she was moved to Hastings to be near her youngest son and his wife. Though her final years have been difficult with decreasing health, she is now enjoying a new body with joy and strength as she spends eternity worshiping at the feet of Jesus.
