Dorothy Burgardt

Dorothy Burgardt 87 year-old resident of Little Falls, MN passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013 at her home in Little Falls, MN. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls, MN with Rev. Gary Hendrickson officiating. Burial will take place in Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. on Friday at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN and from 11-12 P.M. on Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls, MN. Dorothy was born on March 19, 1926 in Hancock County, Iowa to the late Herman and Caroline (Jesse) Nuehring. She grew up on a farm near Britt, Iowa. Dorothy graduated form Britt High School in 1945. She taught school for 1 year and worked at Candy Kitchen until moving to Kansas City, Kansas. Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper at Commerce Trust Company until she married Clayton Burgardt on June 18, 1949. Dorothy and Clayton moved to Little Falls, MN in 1952. She helped Clayton with the City Sanitary Service and the Burgardt Bus Service. She was a bookkeeper for the business, and also kept busy as a homemaker and mother of 8 children, and also was a Shaklee distributor of health products. Dorothy was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls, MN and also enjoyed being involved at the Little Falls Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, plants, flowers, and loved collecting spoons, hummels, crystal, and researching the family tree. She also loved traveling to Florida, Hawaii, Tonga Island, and anywhere it was warm. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Donald (Susan) Burgardt of Sioux Falls, SD; Gary (Beth) Burgardt of Little Falls, MN; Gregg (Laurie) Burgardt of Little Falls, MN; Brian (Kathy) Burgardt of Little Falls, MN; Curtis Burgardt of Sauk Rapids, MN; daughters, Bonnie (Saia) Kavapalu of South St. Paul, MN and Cheryl Burgardt of South St. Paul, MN; brother, Ronald (Lorraine) Nuehring of Little Falls, MN; sisters, Mildred Nieman of Little Falls, MN; Lois (Kenneth) Elvin of Jefferson, TX; Janice (Ralph) Swanson of Inner Grove Heights, MN; sister-in-law, Gerry Nuehring of Little Falls, MN; and 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clayton Elder Burgardt; parents, Herman and Caroline; daughter, Diane Burgardt; brothers, Arthur (Ruth) Nuehring, Eugene (Ruby) Nuehring, and Harold Nuehring.
