Dorothy M. Waytashek

Dorothy M. Waytashek, 89 year old resident of Pierz, MN, passed away peacefully, Friday, May 24, 2019, surrounded by her loving children at Little Falls Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, with Rev. David Maciej officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Pierz. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Shelley Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz, and also from 9 to 10 am on Wednesday, May 29th at the funeral chapel. Dorothy was born on October 13, 1929, in Lastrup, MN to Alfred and Mary (Becker) Hansmann. She attended country school in Morrison County, MN. She was united in marriage to Melvin J. Waytashek on September 28, 1949, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup. The couple made their home and farmed in eastern Morrison County. Dorothy was a wonderful homemaker, who took great pride in raising their eight children. She loved gardening, baking bread and caramel rolls, mowing acres of lawn, dancing to old-time music, canning and making the best jams, reading the newspaper and watching the news. She was the recipe queen of Morrison County. Later in life, she loved bowling and trips to the casino. Most of all, Dorothy loved spending time with her large family. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Jeff (Jill) Waytashek of Sartell, Bruce (Kris) Waytashek of Little Falls, Jason (Lynn) Waytashek of Rice; daughters, Darla DeRosier of Pierz, Kayla (Kenny) Chock of Little Falls, Glenda (Gordy) Anderson of Little Falls, Nancy (Bruce) Waldvogel of Little Falls and Jill Waytashek of Little Falls; brother, Arvin (Bev) Hansmann; sisters, Verna (Julian) Pulak, Arlene (Marvin) Brausen, Yvonne Pruzinski, and sister-in-law, Mary Hansmann; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, plus 2 on the way and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Mary Hansmann; husband, Melvin in 2004, brothers, Leo (Irene) Hansmann and Lawrence Hansmann, infant brother, Joseph; sister, Leola (Ray) Ebertowski and infant sister, Rosemary. Pallbearers will be Dorothy’s grandchildren. The family would like to thank Little Falls Care Center for their compassionate care of Dorothy.
