Florence Pekula

Florence H. Pekula, Age 96, a resident of Sobieski, MN, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2008 at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial for Florence H. Pekula will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski, MN with Father Mark Innocenti officiating and Father Raymond Donnay concelebrating. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus’ Parish Cemetery in Sobieski. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM and on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN. Christian Mothers, St. Anne’s Mission Circle and the Quilting Club will pray the Rosary at 4:30 PM. VFW Ladies Auxiliary at 5 PM, followed by Parish Prayers at 6 PM on Tuesday at the Shelley Funeral Chapel. Florence H. Pekula was born on March 22, 1912 in Swan River Township, Morrison County, Minnesota to the late Frank & Victoria (Woltman) Gosiak. She was united in marriage to John A. Pekula on October 28, 1929 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bowlus. The couple farmed and raised their four children in the Sobieski area before moving into the town of Sobieski in 1970. John passed away in 1990 and Florence continued to live in Sobieski. As Florence’s health continued to decline, she most recently resided at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski, Christian Mothers, St. Anne’s Mission Circle, St. Stanislaus Prayer Line and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Florence enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, quilting, praying the rosary, spending time with company and her family, especially her grandchildren. Florence is survived by her sons, Leonard (Geraldine) Pekula of Little Falls, MN and James (Rita) Pekula of Little Falls, MN; daughters, Joan (Duane) Jendro of Little Falls, MN and Mary Bellefeuille of Little Falls, MN; a brother, Ambrose (Martha) Gosiak of Little Falls, MN; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Victoria Gosiak; husband, John A. Pekula; an infant daughter; grandson, Joe Jendro; a brother, Leo Gosiak; sisters, Mary Solorz, Elizabeth Casper and Agnes Psick. Honorary Pallbearers will be Roland Pekula, Roger Pekula, Jeff Pekula, Gary Pekula, Randy Pekula, Danial Jendro, Mike Koll and Kris Bellefeuille. Active Pallbearers will be Judy Lashinski, Renee Tabatt, Janet Groshong, Dorothy Koenig, Julie Jendro and Michelle Carll.
