Gary Larson

Gary K. Larson, Beloved husband of Susan and loving father of Jeffery and Kelly Jo, WALKED into the loving arms of his Lord, surrounded by his family, on July 16th 2007, at the age of 69, at the Foley Nursing Center in Foley, Minnesota. A celebration of Gary's life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 27, 2007 at the Camp Ripley Chapel in Camp Ripley with Pastor Keith Thompson officiating. Interment will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls, MN. Friends may share time and memories with the family from 10-11 A.M. on Monday, August 27, 2007 at the Camp Ripley Chapel in Camp Ripley. Arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapels in Little Falls, MN. Gary Kenneth Larson was born on August 27, 1937 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to the late LeRoy & Dorothy (Minor) Larson. Gary grew up in the Minneapolis area. When Gary was a teenager the family moved to Sauk Rapids, MN where he graduated from Sauk Rapids High School. After high school Gary enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. After serving for 3 years he was honorably discharged. Gary was united in marriage to Joanie Weihrauch on November 18, 1961 in Sauk Rapids, MN. Gary owned & operated Rapids Recreation & Pro Shop from 1973 to 1983. After moving to Hawaii, and spending a year driving a taxi, he returned to Minnesota in 1985 to marry Susan Meyer and they began their journey together. In 1989 Gary suffered the first of many debilitating strokes. In spite of his disabilities he was a driving force and active member of the Milaca & Sauk Rapids AA Groups. With the support of these groups he was able to achieve 30 years of sobriety, and was an inspiration to many members. Until 2003 Gary continued to actively assist other disabled individuals as a volunteer driver for the VA. Gary’s greatest enjoyment came from his grandchildren and the time spent with them. He is survived by his wife Susan of 21 years, children, Jeff and Kelly Jo(Tim)Borgert, stepchildren Dan(Tanya)Meyer, Don Meyer, DeeDee(Dave)Conkle, six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, his brothers, sisters and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his nephew Craig.
