Gladys Poeppel

Gladys (Manning) Poeppel, 84 years old, resident of Little Falls, MN passed away Friday, December 18, 2015, at Harmony House, Pierz MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie with Father Jeremy Ploof Officiating. Burial will take place in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, north of Little Falls, MN. A visitation will take place from 4-8 PM on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN and from 10-11 AM on Monday, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie. Parish prayers will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Sunday evening. Funeral arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN. Gladys was born on March 14, 1931 in Frazee, MN to William and Bertha (Habeck) Manning. She attended a small one-room schoolhouse that had been built on the corner of her dad’s farm, through the 8th grade and graduated from Frazee High School in Frazee, MN. After graduation Gladys moved to Minneapolis, MN where she met her future husband Joe Poeppel. They were united in marriage on September 5, 1951 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, MN. The couple lived in Minneapolis, MN before relocating to Little Falls, MN in 1953. Gladys worked initially as a homemaker, raising their four daughters and helping to build their home on Riverwood, where they lived for 54 years. She worked as a bookkeeper at Fleet Supply for many years and then Vons Supply, both in Little Falls, MN. Upon retiring, she volunteered for many years in the gift shop at St. Gabriel’s Hospital. Gladys’ greatest passion was her family. She enjoyed traveling and planning family and friends get togethers, whether they were at the house or on a camping trip. She always made sure everyone had a good time. Her greatest asset was her smile; it lit up the whole room. She was an active member of Holy Family Church for over 50 years, belonging to St. Anne’s Society and Mission Club. Gladys is survived by her four daughters; Gloria (Timothy) Lyons of Fresno, CA, Cyndi (Mike) Josephson of North Richmond Hills, TX, Mary Allord and significant other Mark Sjoberg of Royalton, MN and Kathy (Brendon) van der Hagen of Cold Spring, MN; brother Eugene (Delores) Manning of Callaway, MN, sister Lorraine Windeles of Detroit Lakes, MN, sisters-in-law Mabel Manning of Frazee, MN and Betty Manning of Detroit Lakes, MN, grandchildren: Sean Josephson, Melissa Abts, Shane Josephson, Jason Allord, Jessica Anderson, John Allord, Brendan Lyons, Michael Lyons, Timothy Lyons, Mikaela van der Hagen, and McKenzie van der Hagen; and 13 great-grandchildren. Gladys was preceded in death by husband, Joseph Poeppel of 63 years, parents, William and Bertha Manning, sister Doreen Baumgart, brothers Clyde Manning and Larry Manning.
