Harold “Bub” F. Jansen, 73 year old resident of Pierz, MN passed away Friday, January 12, 2024 at his home in rural Pierz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, MN with Father Kenneth Popp officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Monday and from 10 to 11:30 AM on Tuesday at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Pierz. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to CHI Hospice. Caring for Bub and his family is the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN. Harry Jansen was born on December 31st, 1950 in Atkinson, Nebraska to the late Norbert and Ethel Jansen. He passed away on January 12th, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. In 1958, his family moved to MN and bought a farm south of Genola. Harry was a part of the first graduating class of Healy High School in 1969. Following graduation, he joined the Minnesota National Guard. In 1970, he met the love of his life, Janel Scholl. They were married on May 20th, 1972. The two of them began their life together and enjoyed many activities including snowmobiling and spending time with friends and family. In 1973, they welcomed their first son, Kelly, with Amy and Robert following soon after. He was a hands-on father, supporting Amy at her basketball games, and working side-by-side with Kel and Bob on the farm. He treasured his time with his children. In 1979, he lost his leg in a farming accident, one of the many challenges he would face in his life. Harry and Janel also experienced the heartbreak no parent should ever experience when Amy tragically passed away in 1999. Somehow, they carried on and came to welcome the joy found in their grandchildren. Harry enjoyed watching all of his grandchildren grow. With his patience and sense of humor, he was able to share his wealth of knowledge with all of them. Each grandchild knew Grandpa would always have time for them, support them, and love them no matter what. These traits have helped each grandchild recognize the person they want to be, and what creates a strong family foundation. In 2013, Harry was the recipient of a double lung transplant. This provided him with an additional ten years of camping, fishing, taking side-by-side rides, spending time with his family, and hosting the annual Memorial Day Campout where family and friends have gathered together for nearly 40 years. Harry is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Janel; sons, Kelly (Mary) Jansen, and Robert (Rebecca) Jansen; siblings, Duane (Luanne) Jansen, Len (Carol) Jansen, Jeannene (Richard) Krantz, Catherine (Gary) Gall, Lestie (Jim) Rueter, and Jo Ann (Ron) Herold; brother-in-law, Geary Keppel; seven grandchildren, Jalen, Jordyn, Joe, Kate, Sam, Liam, and Brandon. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Ethel Jansen; daughter Amy and sister, Arlene Keppel.
