Helen E. Psick

Helen E. Psick, 88 year old resident of Thief River Falls, formerly of Little Falls, MN passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Valley Home Assisted Living in Thief River Falls, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN with Father Jeremy Ploof officiating. Burial will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 A.M. on Tuesday at the church. Helen Elizabeth Psick (Waltman) was born on March 15, 1928 on her family farm near Sobieski, MN to the late Albert and Bridget Waltman (Maciej). Helen was raised on her family farm and loved to help her father with his building and construction projects; this built a special bond between Helen and her father. On October 15, 1946, Helen was united in marriage to Benedict Eugene Psick at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski, MN. They made their home in Little Falls, MN. To their marriage union, they were blessed with five children. The home they lived in for the majority of their married life was built by Helen, her father, and husband. Helen’s home was her pride and joy and always filled with love. She welcomed everyone into her home as if they were her own family. Helen worked at Munsingwear Sewing Factory as a seamstress for 15 years and then as a nursing aide at Lutheran Nursing Home in Little Falls. She was a caring provider for many residents throughout her nursing career. Camping, fishing and gardening were favorite hobbies and pastimes of hers that always brought her closer to family and to nature. She especially loved flowers and making her yard and home beautiful for all to enjoy. In Helen’s later years, she was diagnosed with dementia and was able to remain in her home for 13 years with the constant care of her daughter, Marie Psick. In Helen’s last 3 years of life, she moved to Valley Home Assisted Living in Thief River Falls, MN. During this time her daughter, Kathy Klinker and the staff at Valley Home, provided care and a wonderful quality of life. She called the staff her “angels.” Helen is survived by her son, Benedict L. Psick Jr. (life partner, Antonio Moreno) of Minneapolis, MN; daughters, Marie Psick of Little Falls, MN, Kathleen Klinker and husband, Larry of Thief River Falls, MN, and Shirley Capper of Shawnee, KS; grandchildren, Ms. Char (Jim) Kleinschmidt, Paul (Tracy) VanHercke, April (Matt) Kraemer, Angela (Andy) Rodgers, Amber (Tony) Lindgren, and Blaze (Christopher Bartlett) Capper; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Maizy,& Sophia Kraemer, Aidan VanHercke, Jacob Lockwood, Aubrey Rodgers, Ava Rodgers and Addison Lindgren. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Benedict E. Psick; parents, Albert and Bridget Waltman; brother, Ray Waltman; sisters, Irene Gallus and Cecelia Lehrke; daughter, Delphine Psick. Pallbearers will be Blaze Capper, Paul VanHerke, Andrew Rodgers, Matthew Kraemer, Donald Waltman and Ronald Lehrke.
