Irving Sauer

Irving H. Sauer, 84 year old resident of St. Otto’s Care in Little Falls, MN passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at St. Otto’s. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, October 9, 2006 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Nicholas Landsberger officiating. Burial will be at Epiphany Catholic Church Cemetery in Coon Rapids, MN. Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM on Sunday, October 7th at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls and from 10:30 to 11:30 AM on Monday at the church. Parish Prayers will be held at 7:30 PM Sunday evening at the Shelley Funeral Chapel. Irving H. Sauer was born on March 16, 1922 in Buckman, Minnesota to the late Joseph and Trace (Moser) Sauer. He grew up on a farm in the Buckman area and later moved to a farm near Little Falls. He was united in marriage to Bernice (Girtz) Sauer on November 7, 1944 in Buckman, MN. The couple resided in Long Prairie, MN and later in Pierz. Irving worked as a truck driver for Long Prairie Rendering. In 1957, the family moved to Minneapolis, MN where he worked at Hitchcock Industries. In 1958, moved to Coon Rapids, MN where he was employed at the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant and then at Federal Cartridge in Anoka, retiring in 1987. He retired to Isle, MN and later in Swanville, MN. In March of 2004 he entered St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls. Irving enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, even at St. Otto’s, he and Anna spent many hours playing cards. He would also get a big smile on his face when Austin, his great-grandson, would come and visit him and bring his candy bars. He was still fascinated with cars, new and used, he would talk about the changes over the years. Irving is survived by his children, Geri Wicht & husband, Arnie of Anoka, MN, Mary Ann Lund & husband, Loren of Isle, MN, Don Sauer & wife, Deb of Coon Rapids, MN, Tim Sauer & wife, Belinda of Cambridge, MN; 5 grandchildren, Debbie, Mark, Michelle, Dallas and Dain; 6 great-grandchildren, Jillian, Derek, Aaron, Kellie, Carrie and Austin; 1 great-great-grandchild; special friend and companion, Anna DeFoe of Swanville, MN; sister, Vera Erickson & husband, John of Cannon Falls, MN; brother, Harvey Sauer of Little Falls, MN; in laws, Elmer Girtz, Bill Girtz, Jackie Girtz, Jayne Girtz and Celine Guck; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by beloved wife, Bernice Girtz, 2nd wife, Eleanor, and 3rd wife, Norma; parents, Joseph & Trace (Moser) Sauer; in laws, William & Anna (Kobilka) Girtz, Markus “Stubby” Girtz and Delores (Czech) Sauer. Pallbearers will be Jeff Price, Richie Sauer, Ron Sauer, John Erickson, Dave Kimmes and Dan Guck.
