JEROME J. STANGL, 85 year old resident of Pierz, passed away Thursday (March 13) at St. Gabriels’ Hospital in Little Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial for Jerome J. Stangl will be held Monday at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz with Rev. Gerald Dalseth and Rev. Al Stangl officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 4-8 PM and Monday from 9 AM until the service at Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz. Christian Mothers will pray a rosary Sunday at 4:30 PM at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz followed by parish prayers at 7 PM and Pierz Knights of Columbus Office for the Dead at 7:30 PM. Jerome J. Stangl was born September 25, 1922 in Pierz, MN to the late Joseph & Anna (Schraut) Stangl. He grew up and attended school in Pierz. Jerome was united in marriage to Marie E. Dickinson on November 21, 1944 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waite Park, MN. The couple dairy farmed in Granite Township, East of Pierz for 50 years. Jerome also worked for Northern Pacific Railroad, later Burlington Northern in Brainerd, MN from 1952 until retiring in 1985. Jerome was an avid hunter and fisherman. He made many trips out west, hunting with friends. He cherished his family and loved to be with children. He enjoyed socializing, sharing coffee at the Star Café and later at the Old Bank Restaurant. On Monday’s, Jerome could always be found at Rich Prairie Livestock barn. The couple enjoyed traveling to see their children, including a very memorable trip to Europe. Jerome loved baseball and was manager of the Center Valley Baseball team for years. He also was the umpire for many local baseball teams. In 1996, the couple moved to Shoennes Haus Apartments in Pierz. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz and Pierz Knight’s of Columbus Council #3982. Jerome is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marie; sons, Francis (Karen) Stangl of Buckman, MN and Alan (Marge) Stangl of Shoreview, MN; daughters, Margaret Ann Marshik & friend, Todd Caddy of Pierz, MN; Melanie (Roger) Hiemenz of Pierz, MN; Karla (Chuck) Storkamp of Pierz, MN; brothers, Conrad (Laura) Stangl of Pierz, MN; Edward (Lou) Stangl of Pierz, MN; Urban (Viola) Stangl of Pierz, MN and Marvin (Marion) Stangl of Pierz, MN; sisters, Elizabeth Becker of Pierz, MN and Laura Kapsner of Pierz, MN; 14 grandchildren, Jamey, Tanya, Josh, Patrick, Paula, Nancy, Eric, Jason, Angela, Jimmy, Mandy, Tony, Maria and Suzanna; 12 great grandchildren, Matthew, Miranda, Kyle, Connor, Griffith, McKena, Isabelle, Kylee, Brittney, Sabrina, Noah and William. Jerome was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Barbara Millner & Gertie Kapsner and an infant brother. Honorary casketbearers will be the grandchildren. Casketbearers: Jamey Stangl, Tony Stangl, Eric Marshik, Jim Hiemenz, Matt Woitalla and Mike Stangl. Memorials preferred to St. Joseph’s Church, Holy Trinity School or the Diabetes Association.
