Jerry D. Newman

Newman, Jerry D., 49 year old resident of Little Falls, MN, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the St. Cloud Hospital, after a 7 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Funeral Service will be held at 4 PM on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, with Rev. Barry Schoder officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 PM Thursday in the chapel. Gerald David Newman was born on May 16, 1965 in Detroit Lakes, MN to the late Jadie and Carolyn (Ward) Newman. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. Jerry was united in marriage to Susan Hawkins on June 9, 1996 in Kragnas, MN, and the couple made their home in Detroit Lakes. In 2001 they moved to Royalton, MN, and last year had moved to Little Falls. Jerry was a self-made man, good at figuring things out and using his hands to build things. He took numerous technical classes, such as computer aided drafting classes which helped him to become a design engineer. He started his own manufacturing companies, most recently, Ridgeline Manufacturing, which made Docks and other boating equipment. After selling this company 2 years ago, Jerry went to work for Two Rivers Enterprises in Holdingford, MN; a manufacturer of assembly line equipment. Even when he was off work, Jerry would be on his computer at home, working on projects. Jerry took time to relax by going fishing, as well as other outdoor activities such as 4-wheeling and going camping with his family. There was one memorable trip, driving through a June blizzard to reach Yellowstone National Park. He was most proud of being a loving husband, and father and grandpa to his four children and three granddaughters. Jerry is survived by his wife, Sue of Little Falls; children, Christian Newman, Reed Newman, Alyssa Newman, and Cherrish (Josh) Schaefer, all of Little Falls; granddaughters, Kaylee Kertscher, Isabella Schaefer, and Lilliah Newman; brothers, Danny (Georgette) Gallagher of Virginia, MN, Doug (Margaret) Newman of Little Falls, and Wilfred (Bea) Newman of Topeka, KS; sisters, Brenda (Mike) Eidenschink of Detroit Lakes, MN, Sherry (Brian) Moberg of Stillwater, MN, Cathy (Carl) Larson of Renton, WA, Phyllis (Wayne) Hukriede of Detroit Lakes, Irene (Roger) Berger of Anoka, MN, and Beaulah Newman of Anoka, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jadie and Carolyn Newman; brothers, Timothy Gallagher and David Newman; and both sets of grandparents.
