John M. Samuelson

John “Jack” “Sam” McDowell Samuelson, 69 year old resident of Little Falls, MN passed away Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday (June 11) at First United Church in Little Falls, MN. Burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN and from 10 to 11 A.M. on Wednesday at the Church. A Masonic service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls. John McDowell Samuelson was born April 2, 1939 in Bismarck, ND. To the late John Elmer and Jean (McDowell) Samuelson. He attended Bismarck High School graduating with the class of 1957. He worked summers with the N.D Highway Department while attending Moorhead State College during the year. He was discharged from the National Guard in September 1960 and the U.S Army in February 1965. While in the service he served as a male nurse. When discharged he still dabbled in the medical field helping to perform autopsies and worked in the hospital setting while attending college. John moved to Little Falls in 1966. He was employed by the Little Falls School District fro 34 years as a Speech Clinician until retiring in 1998. He also maintained a private practice serving patients with speech needs. He was very active in M.E.A., an educational organization, on the local and state level. He was very involved in his community and highly respected in all positions that that he served. He enjoyed a challenge and working with the variety of people he met. He was a member of First United Church, Little Fall Masonic Lodge #140 A.F.&A.M., AAD Shrine Temple in Duluth and AAD Temple Oriental Band. He had belonged to the Moose Club and belonged to the evening and Lindbergh Lions Clubs. John was committed to his wife, Jean. He gave her love, joy and unconditional love. He continually planned for her well being. Grandsons, Mac and Sam, were the apple of Grandpa’s eye. His family was most important to him. Among John’s numerous outside activities were: hunting, fishing, boating, reading, gardening, and playing bridge. He enjoyed politics, sports, and financial planning. He loved visiting with friends. John is survived by his wife, Jean Samuelson of Little Falls, MN; son, John F. Samuelson of Littleton, CO; daughter, Kimberly Johnson and husband, Jeff of Little Falls, MN; grandsons, McDowell and Samuel Johnson; sister, Mercy Ann and husband, Elliot Dennis of Anchorage, AK. John is preceded in death by his parents. His huge personality and infectious smile and laugh will be missed by all who loved him.
