John R. Lowery, 88 year old resident of Little Falls, MN passed away Friday, September 30, 2011 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Little Falls, MN. A memorial service will be held at 3P.M. on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN. Lowery, 88, beloved father, husband and grandfather died on September 30, 2011 in Little Falls, Minnesota. He was born in Austin, Minnesota on January 24th, 1923. John is preceded in death by parents, Archibald and Cecelia Lowery, and brother Phillip Lowery. John is survived by his wife of 62 years Virginia H. Lowery, his children, John (Terri), Peter (Lori), Leslie Valesano (Robert), Robin Klosowski (Larry), B.Susanne Fitzsimmons (Dana). Also surviving him are 11 grandchildren; Emma Fitzsimmons, Meagan and Jeb Lowery, Joshua and Zachary Klosowski, Johnathan and Michael Valesano, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Rachel and Aidan Lowery. After graduating high school at Hyattsville, Maryland in 1941, John attended the Universities of Kentucky and Maryland. In 1943 he enlisted in the US Airforce and served the duration of the war stationed in Italy in a communications unit.. After returning home to Minnesota, where his parents were living, he attended the University of Minnesota and on May 8th 1949, he and his high school sweetheart, Virginia Howard were married at the Macalester Presbyterian Church in St Paul. After their marriage they returned to Hyattsville where he was employed in the dairy industry. Returning to Minnesota in the mid 1950's, John accepted a position with the Central Livestock Association as sales representative for the Central Minnesota region. It was then he and Virginia settled on the banks of the Mississippi to raise their family at the end of a road that later became Lowery Drive. John retired from Central Livestock after 22 years of service to the company. John loved the outdoors, especially being out in his yard and fishing. He took great pride in caring for his family and home.
