Josephine A. Hoheisel

Josephine Agnes (Josie) Hoheisel , 78 year-old resident of Pierz, MN passed away Thursday, (November 1) at the Harmony House in Pierz, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10:30 AM (November 5) at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, with Fr. Ken Popp officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Pierz. Friends may call Sunday from 4-8 PM and Monday from 9:00-10:00am at the Shelly-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz. Parish prayers will be held Sunday at 7 PM at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel. Josie was born on August 10, 1934, to John and Rose (Smith) Otremba. She was the fourth of five children. Her twin brother Joseph died in infancy. She attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Little Falls High School. She was united in marriage to Frank Hoheisel on June 9, 1952, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, MN. They raised a family of six children. They lived on the Hoheisel family farm for several years, then moved to NE Minneapolis. When they moved back to the Pierz area, they moved to the Otremba family farm. They farmed there for many years until retirement. Josie worked at Munsingwear in Little Falls for many years. In 1991 they moved into Pierz. She baked for the Knotty Pine Restaurant for a time. Josie enjoyed playing cards, gardening, cooking, baking, and doing laundry. She had a special love for her step-dog, Princess. Josephine was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, MN. Josie is survived by her sons, Mike (Eileen) Hoheisel of Cushing, MN, Russ (Cathy) Hoheisel of Zimmerman, MN and Paul (special friend Mary Kay) of Pierz, MN; daughters, Rose Schlicting-Kohler of Elk River, MN; Sandy (Bill) Virnig of Hillman, MN and Anna (Gregg) Vait of Pierz, MN; 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in0laws, Leona Otremba of Bloomington, MN; Linda Otremba of Pierz, MN and Joretta Hoheisel of Pierz, MN. Josie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank (June 14, 2011); sons-in-laws, Bob Schlicting and Dan Kohler; sister, Ruth Tschida; brothers, Joseph, Richard and Jim ’Poncho’ Otremba. Honorary bearers: Mary Young, Mary Hansmann, Diane Meyer, Lydia Hoheisel, Mary Austin, Marie Otremba, Carolyn Jensen, Helen Larson, Diane Boser and Phylis Schmidtbauer. Casketbearers will be her children, Rosi, Mike, Russ, Sandy, Paul, and Anna.
