Kristy Ann Yorek

Kristy A. Yorek, 71 year old resident of Little Falls, MN, formerly of Shakopee, MN, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta, MN. A Celebration of Kristy’s life will be held on April 6, 2024 at the Little Falls American Legion from 1 PM to 5 PM. Caring for Kristy and her family is the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls. Kristy Ann Yorek was born on October 13, 1952 at St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee, MN to Hank & Gloria (Johnston) Yorek. She attended Guardian Angels Catholic School in Chaska, MN and then Shakopee High School. She graduated from Shakopee High School in 1976. Kristy married John McGovern in January 1969. On August 28, 1969, her only child, Jason, was born. They lived in Shakopee until 1993 when they moved to Burnsville. John and Kristy divorced in 1994. Kristy and Steve started dating shortly after and were together until Steve passed in 2021. Kristy worked for Scott County Human Services before transitioning to the State of Minnesota Department of Human Services as a Legislative Liaison. She and John also owned the Union 76 Station in Shakopee until 1991. Kristy had many hobbies and likes. She was an avid crocheter and many of us have been gifted with her work. She also enjoyed gardening, especially at her cabin. She bowled in many leagues over the years. She enjoyed watching the Twins, MN Wild, and tennis. She also loved to play video games. After she retired, she enjoyed camping as well as sitting on the end of the dock fishing for Northern. Her favorite place to be though, was Costa Rica. She and Steve had a timeshare there and would go for at least 3 weeks a year. And of course, she made many friends down there as well. She and Steve also took a trip to Europe and she loved every minute of it. She had a very full, very fun, up and down at times life. When Kristy moved to Little Falls, she joined the American Legion and was an active member of the Women’s Auxiliary. She was an amazing Friend, Mom, Mother-in-Law, and Grandma. She will be missed by everybody who ever met her. She made friends no matter where she was or what she was doing. Special thank you to St. Gabe’s and Quiet Oaks Hospice Home. We cannot thank you enough for the care you gave Kristy. Know that you are appreciated by all of us. Kristy was preceded in death by her parents, Hank & Gloria Yorek; brother, Michael Yorek; former husband, John McGovern; and her significant other, Steve Barta. Kristy is survived by her son, Jason; daughter-in-law, Denise; granddaughter, Katherine; brother, Patrick and his wife Linda; nieces, Kayla Heitzman and Kari Murdy; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy Marsh & Jerry Fink; close friend, Mary Beth Nagel; her dog Rusty; as well as many, MANY friends and family. We love you Kristy/Ma/Motherhood/Gram. Fly with the Angels. Now you and John can take turns watching over Baby Girl.
