Leander Brausen

Leander Brausen, 75 year old resident of Hillman, MN passed away Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Mille Lacs Health System in Onamia, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 11, 2016 at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Hillman, MN with Father Greg Poser officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Rita's Parish Cemetery in Hillman, MN. A visitation will be held from 4-8 P.M. on Sunday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN and from 10-11 A.M. on Monday at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Hillman, MN. Funeral arrangements are with the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN. Leander was born on November 22, 1940 in Onamia, MN to the late Joseph and Helen (Dahmen) Brausen. He grew up in Hillman, MN where he attended Hillman Country School. Leander was united in marriage to his soulmate Clara Hoffman on February 23, 1963 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, MN. The couple began their life together in Minneapolis, MN and later moved back to Hillman, MN in 1965 where they enjoyed 49 great years of married life. Leander and Clara resided in Hillman for many years which is where they farmed and raised their family. He was an avid fisherman that always knew where the fish were biting. Being the good fisherman he was, he was also a great story teller and loved to tell stories. Leander also enjoyed hunting, playing cards, and spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly. He was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Hillman. Leander will forever be remembered for his heart of gold and for his kind and gentle spirit. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by many. Leander is survived by sons, Leander ‘Shorty’ of Hillman, MN and Carly of Hillman, MN; daughters, Rocky of Hillman, MN, Sandy of Hillman, MN and Tammy (Robbie) of Freedhem, MN; brothers, Harvey (Eileen) of Pierz, MN and Joey (Cheryl) of Hillman, MN; sister, Janet Walz of Pierz, MN; grandchildren, Krystal (Everett) Davis of Fergus Falls, MN, Zachery (Kaylie) Kieffer of Hillman, MN and Brock Kieffer of Hillman, MN; great-grandchild, Xavier; funny man’s special children, Brandon Winscher, and Charlie Okroi; godchildren, Krystal Davis and Kevin Blonigen; and special dog, Sassy. Leander was preceded in death by parents, Joe & Helen Brausen; wife, Clara Brausen; son-in-law, Jamie Hoheisel; mother and father-in-law, William and Regina Hoffman; brother-in-law, Donald Walz; and 3 special angels.
