LEONARD J. MACIEJ Sr. 70 year old resident of Elmdale, passed away Wednesday (Aug. 8) at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10:30 AM at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Elmdale with Rev. Dale Ettel officiating. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 4-8 PM at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Elmdale. Parish prayer service will be held Sunday at 6 PM followed by the Bowlus American Legion rosary at 7 PM at St. Edward’s Catholic Church. There will also be reviewal Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Military rites will be conducted by the Bowlus American Legion Post #642. Arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls. Leonard was born September 18, 1936 in Elmdale Township, MN to the late Daniel & Agnes Maciej. He grew up in Elmdale Township and attended country school through the eight grade. He graduated from Little Falls High school in 1954. Leonard served in the US Army from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956. He was united in marriage to Rosemary Kalis on June 2, 1958 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Elmdale, MN. The couple lived in the Twin Cities where Leonard worked as a parts manager for Rambler Automotive Co. for 11 years. They purchased a farm in Elmdale Township in 1962 and farmed until 1998. Leonard also worked at Hennepin Paper Mill in Little Falls as a parts manager from 1963 until retiring in 1982. The last several years he enjoyed living at his lake home on Big Swan Lake. Leonard enjoyed hunting, fishing and driving his four-wheeler. He especially enjoyed visiting with his family, friends and neighbors. Leonard was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Elmdale, MN and the Bowlus American Legion Post #642. Leonard J. Maciej Sr is survived by his sons, Lenny Maciej (Leann) Sobieski, MN; Timothy Maciej of Elmdale, MN and Kelly Maciej (Tonya) Elmdale, MN; daughters, Cindy Maciej, Little Falls, MN; Eva Maciej, Elmdale, MN; Lori Waytashek, (Brad) Little Falls, MN and Lisa Knopik (Galen) Maple Grove, MN; brother, Richard Maciej (Carol) Princeton, MN; sisters, Adeline Madsen (Rodney) Little Falls, MN and Shirley Yourczek (Jim) Inver Grove Heights, MN; mother in law, Josephine Kalis, Little Falls, MN; 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
