Lucille Margaret Brummer

Lucille Brummer, 89-year-old resident of Hillman, MN passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Mille Lacs Health System Long Term Care Center in Onamia, MN. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Bulldog Lake, MN. Visitation with family and friends will be held 1 hour prior to Mass at Church. Arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel of Onamia. Lucille was born on April 29th, 1929 to Francis and Kathryn (Meyer) Crotty, the youngest of their four children. On April 29th, 1950 Lucille married Richard Brummer in Hibbing, MN. They raised their four children on the family farm in Hillman until Richard’s death in 1980. Following Richard’s death, Lucille went to Cosmetology School and lived with her sister, Loretta, in Richland, WA. She then returned to operate an independent Beauty Shop in her home well into her 80’s. Lucille loved her traveling years where she made trips to Europe, New Zealand, Alaska, through the Panama Canal, to Yuma, AZ with friends and she took many trips with her daughters to Branson, MO, and out west to visit her sister and brother. Lucille valued hard work and felt so much joy in some of the simpler things in life including tending her beautiful gardens, having a great hamburger, owning a fabulous pair of heels, bowling, working at the church and playing a game of cards. She was an avid book reader, and unfortunately, her body gave out well before her mind ever would have. Lucille was quick-witted and had a special love for her friends and her family. She felt joy in sitting on the floor and playing with her grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren. Lucille is survived by her brother, David (Linda) Crotty of Salt Lake City, UT; her children, Susan (Dale) Tretter of Montrose, Matthew (Linda) Brummer of Hillman, Joan (Dale) Kallenberg of Blaine and Laurie (Rick) Mitchell of Isanti; her grandchildren, Kelley (Gabe) Hill, Nicole Mitchell, Richard Mitchell, and Krystal Davis; and her great-grandchildren, Jack, Carmen, Palmer, and Vada. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; sister, Loretta; brother, Donald; and her grandsons, Ryan Tretter and Paul Varner.
