Lyle Stout

Lyle C. Stout, 85 year old resident of Hillman, MN, passed away Sunday (Jan. 7) at the Mille Lacs Health System Long Term Care in Onamia, MN. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillman, MN with Rev. Cathie Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Parish Cemetery in Hillman, MN. Friends may call from Wednesday from 4-8 PM and Thursday from 10 A.M until the service at Immanuel Lutheran Church. A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 6:30 PM at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Hillman American Legion Post # 602. Lyle C. Stout was born on September 27, 1921 in Parker Township, MN to the late Roy and Selma (Carlson) Stout. He grew up in Parker Township and attended district #93 country school. In 1938 the family moved to the Hillman, MN area where he worked for neighbors and family as a farm hand. Lyle then worked in the Twin Cities for a year as a welder. He entered the US Army in May of 1946 and served until his honorable discharge in May of 1947. While in the Army, Lyle was united in marriage to Rita Rieke on December 24, 1946 in Richmond, CA. The couple returned to the Hillman area and farmed until retiring in1983. Lyle also enjoyed harvesting wild rice and worked as a wild rice dealer for over 50 years. Rita passed away on December 15, 1985. He married Bernice Lorraine Nygard on August 19, 1988 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, in Hopkins, MN. The couple resided in Hillman, MN. Lyle enjoyed many hobbies such as deer & elk hunting, fishing, and playing card games like cribbage, wisk, smear, and 500. Lyle was very active in the Lake Region Conservation Club, Club of the Pines and served on the board of the Lastrup Creamery. Lyle was a volunteer state Fire Warden for 52 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillman, MN and the Hillman American Legion Post # 602, Lyle C. Stout is survived by his wife, Bernice Lorraine Stout of Hillman, MN; sons, Gary Stout and wife, Mary of Ham Lake, MN; Rick Stout of St. Paul, MN; Gordon Stout and wife, Nancy of Ramsey, MN; Tim Stout and wife, Pam of Hillman, MN and Bryan Stout and wife, Jill of St. Cloud, MN; daughters, Sandy Forrest and husband, Tom of Blaine, MN and Pam Lance and husband Smokey of Milaca, MN; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Diane Droen and husband, Dwight of Miltona, MN, Kathleen Sullivan and husband, Jim of Mound, MN; John Nygard & wife, Sharon of St. Louis Park, MN; Peter Nygard and wife, Angie of Crystal, MN; sisters, Arline Beveridge of Chula Vista, CA, & Mardell Smith of Eugene, OR. Lyle was preceded in death by wife Rita (Rieke) Stout; parents, Roy and Selma (Carlson) Stout; brothers, Loren and Merlin Stout.
