Mabel Stenholm

Mabel C. Stenholm, 94 year old resident of Upsala, MN, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2006 in Little Falls, MN. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala with Pastor Trish Jorgenson officiating. Burial will be in Gethsemane Lutheran Cemetery in Upsala, MN. Friends may call Thursday from noon to 2 P.M at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala, MN. Mabel was born October 24, 1912 in Burnhamville Township, Todd County, MN to the late Martin & Gena ‘Erickson’ Thompson. She grew up in Burnhamville Township and attended country school. Mabel was united in marriage on her 19th birthday (October 24, 1931) to Bernard Stenholm at the courthouse in Long Prairie, MN. The couple spent most of their marriage living and working in the Upsala area except during WWII, when they resided in Clinton, IA. Returning to rural Upsala following the war, they purchased land and built their home. Mabel was a homemaker and was active in the community and at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on October 24, 2006 surrounded by family and friends. The twinkle in Mabel’s eves was evident when Bernard visited her at St. Otto’s Care Center. The hours they spent together holding hands and talking are what they lived for and was the highlight of their days. The wisdom, history and stories they shared are treasured by their family and friends. Mabel enjoyed baking and cooking for her family Mabel C. Stenholm is survived by her husband, Bernard Stenholm, Upsala, MN; son, Virgil Stenholm & wife, Lucy of Blaine, MN; daughter, Eleanor Johnson & husband, Lloyd of Upsala, MN; sister, Edna Crider of Clinton, IA; grandchildren, Mona Johnson, Steven Johnson, Stuart Johnson, Jodi Nelson & Troy Stenholm;15 great–grandchildren & 1 great great granddaughter. Mabel C. Stenholm was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Alice Peterson-Walter and a brother, Arthur Thompson. Casketbearers; Troy Stenholm, Steven, Stuart & Philip Johnson, Eric Nelson & Glen Swanson. Arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel of Upsala, MN.
