Marcella E. Jutz

Marcella E. Jutz, 82 year old resident of Pierz, MN, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Brainerd, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 8, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, MN, with Father Kenneth Popp officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday and from 9 to 10 AM on Friday at Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz, with a Parish Prayer service at 7 PM on Thursday. Marcella Elsie Thomsen was born on June 8, 1933 in Platte Township, Morrison County, Minnesota to the late Harold and Elsie (Hayes) Thomsen. Marcella grew up 8 miles north of Pierz and attended the local country school. She also attended Little Falls High School. Marcella was united in marriage to Rinehart Jutz on August 23, 1950 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding, MN. Together they raised 9 children on Rinie’s family farm. In 1970, they discontinued with farming and moved to Genola, MN. Marcella then did in-home daycare for many years. Later she worked as a cook at the Pierz Villa and then at the Pierz Nutrition Center. Marcella loved spending time with her family, especially visits from her grandkids. Pink flowers adorned her yard and pink petunias were her favorite as anyone in Pierz could attest. She enjoyed “Quilt Bingo”, playing cards, crocheting, and was an avid Twins fan. Marcella also enjoyed “Old Time” music as well as “Classic Country”. She frequented the Pierz Nutrition Center for bingo, meals, and great fellowship with all her friends. Marcella is survived by her sons, Mike (Kathy) of Blaine, MN, Gary (Paula) of Buckman, MN, Tom of Little Falls, MN, and Patrick (Linda) of Pasco, WA; daughters, Elaine (Frank) Austin of Richmond, MN, Lois Malek of Little Falls, Linda (Lloyd) Cherne of Pierz, and Cherri (Dale) Lund of Champlin, MN; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Jutz of Ramsey, MN; 21 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rinie (Nov. 11, 2011); son, Daniel Raymond (Feb. 12, 2008); son-in-law, Raymond Karst(Feb. 11, 2006); brother, Donald Thomsen; and sister, Marlys Hayes. Honorary Casketbearers will be Kristy Deike, Melissa Williams, Randy Austin, Trista Lund, Tyler Lund, Gwen Jutz, Samantha Thelen, and Nick Karst. Casketbearers will be Christopher Jutz, Brad Jutz, Kala Diederich, Stacie Hughes, Jeremy Jutz, and Carrie Barnes.
