Marvin D. Johnson

Marvin D. Johnson 76 year old resident of Anoka formerly of Cushing, MN passed away Friday, June 27, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, MN. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the Cushing Baptist Church in Cushing, MN with Rev. David Briley and Pastor Dan Holmes officiating. Burial will take place in the Cushing Union Cemetery in Cushing, MN. A visitation will be held from 10-11 A.M. on Tuesday at the Church. Funeral arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN. Marvin Dean Johnson was born on April 3, 1938 in Cushing, MN to the late Oscar and Rosella Johnson. He was raised in the Cushing area attending local schools and Cushing Baptist Church. Upon graduation from Little Falls High School he joined the United States Navy. While in the Navy, at the age of 18 he married his sunday school friend, Janice Bass on December 23,1956 at the Cushing Baptist Church. With his Navy career over they moved to Minneapolis where he worked at NAPA Auto Parts for 39 years as a truck driver. He took early retirement due to illness. Marv and Jan spent the first 5 winters of their retirement years as snowbirds in Sebring, FL. Even though Marv had many health issues he was always looking at the bright side of life and trusting that the Lord had a plan for him. You never felt down after visiting with him. He loved life! In his free time he enjoyed working jig-saw puzzles, reading the daily paper, and playing games on the computer. When Marv was younger he and Jan loved to travel the United States,taking their vacation to a different spot every year. Marv also enjoyed camping and what ever it is that men do in their garages. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marv was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Marv was preceded in death by parents; brother, Carl Johnson; sister, Edith Dobson; brothers-in-law, Irving Borgstrom, Johnny Dobson, and John Pritchard. Marv is survived by the love of his life of 57 years, Janice Johnson of Anoka, MN; daughter, Candace (Rich) Ree of Anoka, MN; son, Richard (Cheri) Johnson of Mounds View, MN; grandchildren, Ben (Tara) Ree, Matt (Lindsay) Ree, Eric (Andrea) Johnson, and Jessica (Chris) Greaves; great-grandchildren, Alex Ree, Makayla Ree, Kayla Ring, Lauren Ree, and Brooke Greaves; brothers, Elmer (Ardelle) Johnson, Ervin (Jeanne) Johnson, David (Gerry) Johnson; sisters, Mildred Borgstrom and Audrey Pritchard; sister-in-law, Betty Johnson; and brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Barb Bass; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
