Mary A. Beumer

Mary A. (Zajac) Beumer, 95 year old resident of Foley, MN formerly of Hillman, MN passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the Heritage House in Foley, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 2, 2017 at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Hillman, MN with Father Jerry Schick officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Rita's Parish Cemetery in Hillman, MN. A visitation will be held from 4-8 P.M. on Sunday with parish prayers at 7:30 P.M. and a visitation from 10-11 A.M. on Monday at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Hillman, MN. Funeral arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN. Mary was born on January 30, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN to the late Frank and Victoria (Filias) Zajac. She moved to Hillman, Lakin Township with her parents and siblings when she was six months old. When Mary was 14 years old she left home and worked on a vegetable farm in Elk River. During the winter months she babysat and was a housekeeper in Minneapolis and also worked at a glove factory. When her brothers went in to the service or left the farm, she went back home to help her parents with the farming. On September 23, 1947 she was united in marriage to Edmund Beumer at St. Louis Catholic Church in Foreston, MN. Together they raised their six children. Mary drove school bus for two years. She loved to garden and quilt. In 2012 she moved to Heritage Place Apartments in Foley where she enjoyed her last five years. Mary was a charter member of the Hillman American Legion Auxiliary Post 602 and member of St. Rita’s Christian Women. Mary is survived by her children; Mike (Chris) Beumer of Brooklyn, IA, Calvin (Tammy) of Hillman, MN, Jim (Monica) Beumer of Burnsville, MN, Karen (Lloyd) Kavan of International Falls, MN, Linda (Jim) Goering of Crystal, MN, Monica (Keith) Funt of Pierz, MN; sister, Louise Kourim of Las Vegas, NV; brother-in-law, Eldred Beumer of Poplar Ville, MS; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Victoria Zajac; husband, Edmund G. Beumer on June 18, 2005 and her siblings, John, Joe, Sam, Victor, George and Andy Zajac.
