Palma M. Johnson

Palma Johnson, 94 year old resident of Upsala, MN, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Mother of Mercy Senior Living in Albany, MN. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Word of Life Church in Upsala, MN, with Rev. Al Jergenson officiating. Burial will be at Word of Life Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 6 PM to 8 PM on Friday and from 10 AM to 11 AM on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN. Palma Mathilda Jergenson was born on October 27, 1923 on the family farm in Donnelly, Stevens County to the late George and Laura (Awsumb) Jergenson. She graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo, ND. She later attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Golden Valley, MN. She also worked at the Agricultural School as a baker in Morris, MN. Palma was united in marriage to Erling Johnson on September 24, 1950 at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church in rural Donelly, MN. The couple settled on a farm outside of Upsala, MN. They raised seven children on the farm. She was a fantastic cook and baker. Palma enjoyed quilting and doing embroidery which her children and grandchildren enjoy to this day. She raised a garden which she shared with neighbors, friends, and relatives. Palma was active in her church, serving as president of Ladies Aide and a Sunday School teacher. She was a humble, hard working farmers wife. Palma resided at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, MN the past four years of life. She was well liked by everyone and never had an enemy. Palma is survived by Sheldon Johnson of Freeport, MN, Philip (Mona) Johnson of Upsala, MN, Leif (Suzi) Johnson of Upsala, MN, Eloise (Richard) Cundiff of Silverdale, WA, Judy (Larry) Voll of Salol, MN and Rachel Johnson of Brooklyn Park, MN; brother, David (Julette) Jergenson of Cyrus, MN; sisters, Ruth Strand of Alexandria, MN, and Grace Mills of Waconia, MN; grandchildren, Jolene & Cory Froese, Janelle & Shawn Reed, Zachary & Sara Johnson, Alison & Jeremy Glaser, Josiah & Jamie Johnson, Jessica & Jason Porteous, Amber Jonson, Jed Johnson, Molly & Jared Blanchet, Leah & Brent Aakre, Nikki & Op Marcellino; great-grandchildren, Evan & Jacob Johnson, Austin & Audrey Porteous, Joshua, Noah & Luke Glaser, Alex, Isaac, Chloe Lindegard, Gatlin Froese, Carson & Mason Reed, Lainey & Mava Aakre, Madelyn & Miles Blanchet, Laura Johnson. Palma was preceded in death by parents, George and Laura Jergenson; husband, Erling Johnson; son, James Johnson; brothers, Alfred, Lawrence, Arden, Conrad, Rueben, and Arnold Jergenson; and sister, Mabel Jergenson.
