Petronella "Pieta" M. Prokott

Petronella “Pieta” Prokott, 80 year old resident of Baxter, MN, formerly of Royalton, MN, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Edgewood of Baxter, surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bowlus, MN, at 11:00 A.M., with Father Greg Sauer officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 A.M., at the church prior to the Mass. Burial will take place at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Royalton, MN. Caring for Pieta is the Shelley Funeral Chapel of Little Falls. Petronella “Pieta” Prokott was born on March 28, 1942, in Venhorst, Holland to the late Martin and Petronella (Jansson) Van Kessel. She lived in Holland until moving to Canada with her family at the age of 10, and eventually, settling in Chesterville, Ontario, Canada. It was there she became pen-pals with a girl from Minnesota. Through her, she met Michael Prokott and fell in love. This love sent her to live her days in Minnesota. The couple was united in marriage on October 19, 1963, in Chesterville, Ontario, Canada. Pieta and Mike had 4 children and lived on a farm by Bowlus, Minnesota. She worked at Francisca’s SuperValu in Little Falls, and finished her career at Mills Fleet Farm in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Pieta was a feisty spitfire, quick to share a laugh, and had a generous heart. Pieta enjoyed reading, shopping, and playing cards, especially in the company of good friends. You could always depend on Pieta for a good laugh. She was an excellent cook and loved entertaining. She became a surrogate mother to many. Pieta loved being a foster grandmother at the Royalton school. She always remained true to her Dutch heritage, as her home was full of Dutch windmills and blue delft. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was known as a woman of strong faith and prayed the Rosary daily. Pieta is survived by children, Dan (Judy) Prokott, Sharon Waytashek, Rhonda Bursch, and Julie (Terry) Popp; grandchildren, Beth Sundby, Jon Prokott, Josh Prokott, Britney Waytashek, Brett Bursch, Brooke Falk, Blake Bursch, Paige Schyma, Greta Popp, Ingrid Popp, and Samuel Popp; great-grandchildren, Broderick Hiemenz, Elowyn Sundby, Edison Sundby, Mason Prokott, Evelyn Prokott, Brody Waytashek, Daxton Kimmons, Zavior Kimmons, Charlie Bursch, Hendrix Falk, Theodore Schyma, and Briggs Falk. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Michael Prokott; grandson, Cody Waytashek; son-in-law, Michael Bursch; parents, Martin and Petronella Van Kessel; brothers, Martin, Bert, and Peter; and sisters, Anna, Grace, Toni, and an infant sister. A special thanks to Baxter Edgewood Memory Care and St. Croix hospice for their exceptional support, love, and kindness. We are so grateful our mother was surrounded by so many loving and caring people.
