Robert R. Samler Sr.

Robert ‘Sam’ was born January 30, 1939 in Yoncalla, OR, the son of the late Charles L. Carrier and Marcella Hardwick. At age two, he was adopted by Oscar Samler. Robert grew up in Park, NE where he graduated from Park High School. He then attended Waverly College in Waverly, IA, graduating with a A.A. degree. Robert entered the US Army in Feb. 1960. He was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in Nov. 1962. Robert was united in marriage to Donna Lee Rasmussen on June 18, 1960. The couple had four children, Robert Jr. Robine, Jeff and Greg Samler. They lived in California from 1962-1974, the year Donna Lee passed away. Robert was united in marriage to DeNae A. Sanders on August 30, 1975 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stillwater, MN. The couple moved to Randall, MN in 1976 and had two children, Tonya and Matthew. Sam was employed at Camp Ripley, MN as a Federal Civilian Technician for 23 years until retiring in 1999. After retiring, the couple sold their Randall home and traveled extensively in the US until settling in Casa Grande, AZ in 2004. While living in CA, Sam took up stock car racing which began a life long hobby of following the NASCAR circuit. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and helping anyone he could. You couldn’t keep the farm out of the farm boy, as he helped in trucking the potato and cotton harvest up to this year in Arizona and New Mexico. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. Robert ‘Sam’ Samler Sr. is survived by his wife, DeNae; sons, Robert ‘Kim” Samler Jr. of Randall, MN; Jeff ‘Lynn’ Samler of Fort Ripley, MN; Greg Samler of Sartell, MN and Matthew ‘Nicole’ Samler of Kodak, TN; daughters, Robine Mayer of Little Falls, MN and Tonya ‘Kelly’ Maciej of Elmdale, MN; nine grandchildren, Josh, Cody & Tyler Samler; Amanda Zimmerman, Rick Mayer, Shawna Samler, Ashley Maharas, Grace and Allie Maciej; seven great grandchildren, Alexis, Sophie and Gisele Samler, Caleb Zimmerman, Carter Mayer, Jayden May and Mackenzie Maharas; brother, David Samler of Benkelman, NE and a sister, Beth Sherlock of FL. Robert was preceded in death by his parents. Honorary casketbearer will by Larry Runyan and the casketbearers will be the grandchildren.
