Ronald L. Baum

Ronald Baum, 73 year old resident of Swanville, MN, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 27, 2014 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville, MN with Rev. Kevin Zellers officiating. Burial will take place in Bearhead Cemetery in Pillsbury, MN. A visitation will be held from 4-8 P.M. on Sunday and from 10-11 A.M. on Monday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville, MN. Arrangements are with Shelley-Gibson Funeral Chapel in Swanville, MN. Ronald was born on March 22, 1941 in Minneapolis, MN to the late Harvey and Clara (Muenchow) Baum. He grew up in the Long Lake area as well as Long Prairie where he attended school. Ron was united in marriage to Dottie Smith on November 2, 1963 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville, MN. The couple made their home in the Swanville area and Ron worked for various places in the area. He worked at the Long Prairie Print Shop, Tombstone Pizza salesman, real estate agent, and lastly managed turkey barns. Ron managed the Molly Creek Turkey Farm and the Thompson Turkey Farm which is where he retired from in 2010. He was a very active man, participating in the Long Prairie Fishing League, Swanville horseshoe league, but was most proud that he competed in the Minnesota Pro-Am Bass Tour. Ron also loved coyote hunting and golfing with his friends; and was very good at everything he did. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Swanville, MN. Ron’s grandchildren were also very special to him and he took an active part in their lives attending their sporting functions. Ron is survived by loving wife of 50 years Dottie Baum of Swanville, MN; son, Jeff (Brenda) Baum of Swanville, MN; daughters, Pam (Bob) Moore of Little Falls, MN and Jodi (Robert Graves) Baum of Swanville, MN; brother, Harlan Baum of Swanville, MN; sister, Carol (Tom) Desseth of Morris, MN; grandchildren, Brandon (Katie) Moore, Andrew (Alicia) Baum, Christopher Baum, Jennifer Baum, Cody Graves, and Cheyenne Graves; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by parents, Harvey and Clara Baum; brothers, Kenneth Baum and Larry Baum; and sister, Betty Hedin.
