Ronald "Ron" A. Nuehring

Ronald A. Nuehring, 86 year old resident of Little Falls, MN passed away Friday, April 12, 2024 at the Little Falls Care Center in Little Falls, MN. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls, MN. Burial will take place in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, MN. A visitation will be held from 4-7 P.M. on Thursday, April 18 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN and from 10-11 A.M. on Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls, MN. Caring for Ronald and his family is the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN. Ronald Allen Nuehring, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on April 12, 2024, in his hometown of Little Falls, MN. Born to Herman and Caroline Nuehring on December 28, 1937, in Britt, Iowa. Ron and his family moved to Little Falls when he was in the seventh grade. Despite not having been born in Little Falls, Ron loved the Little Falls community he eventually served. Ron’s early years, shared with his seven siblings, created a tapestry of stories of farm life filled with hard work and laughter. A graduate of Little Falls Community High School in 1955, Ron strove to serve at an early age and joined the United States Marine Corps after convincing his parents to sign off on his underage form. Ron traveled around the world with the Marine Corps and spent enjoyable years instructing at the Marines cold weather training camp near Reno, NV. In 1959 when Ron was honorably discharged from the Marines, he returned to Little Falls and his service to the community continued when he joined the Little Falls Police Department. Ron loved being a police officer and had many stories of his adventures on the job, not the least of which was delivering a baby. In 1961, Ron married Ida Lorrayne Kurtzahn. Together, they built a life filled with hard work, love, laughter, and the hustle and bustle of raising their three children: Lori, Lisa, and Mike, along with their four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Ron was supremely proud of his huge vegetable garden and the many flowers around his house. He loved playing cards, collecting coins, antiquing, and watching baseball--even when the Minnesota Twins were not particularly good. Ron had a strong faith that correlated to being active at Zion Lutheran Church, serving as a deacon and teaching Sunday school. When Ron finally retired from the Little Falls Police Department in 1991 after 33.5 years on the force, he and Lorrayne fled the Minnesota winters and retreated to Myrtle Beach, SC where he spent his days antiquing, reading, visiting friends, and enjoyed the warmer climate. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his son, James Arthur Martin; his brothers, Art, Harold, and Gene Nuehring; and his sisters, Mildred (Charles) Nieman, Lois (Ken) Elvin, and Dorothy (Clayton) Burgardt. Ron's memory is honored and kept alive by his loving wife, Lorrayne; his children, Lori Nuehring, Lisa (Terry) Beckenbaugh, and Mike (Tammy Kudrowski) Nuehring; his cherished grandchildren, Ashley (Dylan) Graham, Zachary, Victoria, and Chance Nuehring; his great-granddaughter, Harper Graham and his sister, Janice Swanson, and a host of nieces and nephews.
