Violet Edin

Violet L. Edin, 90 year old resident of Upsala, MN passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 4, 2008 at the Word of Life Free Lutheran Church in Upsala, MN with Rev. Jon Benson officiating. Burial will be at the Gethsemane Lutheran Cemetery in Upsala. A visitation will be held from 12 to 1 PM on Friday at the Word of Life Free Lutheran Church. Violet Loraine (Lund) Edin was born in Shell Lake, Wisconsin on October 18, 1917 to Carl and Hildegard (Peterson) Lund. She moved to Upsala with her parents at the age of two. She was confirmed at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala and attended Upsala Area School where she graduated in 1937. Violet went to college at Gustavus Adolphus where she majored in music and art and toured with the College Choir. After two years of college, she went to work as a housemother in an orphanage in Lincoln, Illinois. She returned to Upsala after being offered a job by Axel Borgstrom at the Upsala Bank. Violet’s first date with Ben Carl Edin (the boy next door) was a Fourth of July picnic in 1943. A summer wedding had been planned, but after Violet’s father passed away suddenly, the wedding was moved up. Violet married Ben Edin in Layfayette, MN on February 26, 1944. Her life was centered around her husband, two little boys, and church as a singer in the choir and organist. After her husband Ben passed away suddenly on August 5, 1964, Violet went to work at Upsala High School. In 1973, Violet was hired as the receptionist and bookkeeper at the Upsala Cooperative Telephone Association where she worked until retirement. Following retirement Violet enjoyed traveling. She took several trips to Europe, traveled to Canada to visit her bridesmaid, and visited Washington D.C. and the Southwest United States. She also enjoyed traveling with her son, Walter, in his semi-truck on several trips. Violet enjoyed riding her three-wheel bicycle around Upsala. She also kept busy crocheting, flower gardening, and caring for her menagerie of stuffed animals. Violet was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents Carl and Hildegard Lund, and husband Ben Edin. She is survived by her sons Wesley (Gladys) Edin of Browerville, Walter (Aleta) Edin of Burtrum, granddaughters Heather (Jason) Betterman of Browerville, Heidi (Thomas) Klemish of Long Prairie and seven great-grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill and Kathy Koehn. Active Pallbearers will be Bill Krivanek, David Holmen, Wayne Peterson, David Johnson, Steve Johnson, and Carl Koehn.
