Willmar "Bill" L. Holmquist, 90 year old former resident of Little Falls, MN passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Golden Valley, MN. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Grace Covenant Church in Little Falls with Rev. Steve Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 PM on Saturday at Grace Covenant Church. Military Honors will be conducted by the Little Falls American Legion Post #46. Willmar "Bill" L. Holmquist was born on July 8, 1917 in Long Prairie, Minnesota to the late Edward and Sigrid (Nyberg) Holmquist. He graduated from Long Prairie High School and then attended business college in Minneapolis. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941, serving in Umnak, Alaska installing anti-aircraft defenses. In 1943, he was united in marriage to Marion Larson, who passed away in 1982. Bill was a long-time resident of Little Falls, who owned and operated "Lad N Lassie" clothing store for children. On Dec. 8, 1986, he was united in marriage to Joyce Hamilton. The couple resided in Little Falls until moving to Golden Valley, MN in 2006. Bill served on the Belle Prairie Township Board for 27 years, part of that time he represented Belle Prairie Township on the Region 5 Development Commission. Bill was also a local land developer in the Little Falls area and one of the oldest and longest serving members of the Gideons in the state of Minnesota. He was a member of the Little Falls American Legion Post #46 and Grace Covenant Church in Little Falls. Bill is survived by his wife, Joyce Holmquist of Golden Valley, MN: daughters, Rachel Doyle & husband, Edward of Richmond, VA and Ruth Hamilton of Oakland, CA; son, David Hamilton & wife, Beth of Bloomington, MN; three grandsons, John Doyle, Karl Hamilton and Matthew Hamilton; 1 great-grandson, Aaron Doyle. Bill is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. Pallbearers will be Karl Hamilton, Matthew Hamilton, Bob Holmgren, Pat Sodergren, Ryan Norwood and Kent Warnberg.
