Amelia P. Crotty

Amelia Crotty was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Friday, August 5th, 1932 to Frank Monson and Jessie (Hart) Monson as their fourteenth and youngest blessing. Amelia grew up on a dairy farm in Hillman, Minnesota with her siblings: Elmer, Nels, Walter, Orville, Robert, Edwin, Harold, Ernie, Irene, Evelyn, Hazel, Violet, and Marie. Coming from a musical family, she learned to yodel at a young age, excelled at ballroom dancing, and never gave up her weak spot for Elvis Presley…ever! She earned her GED after attending school in Hillman. She fell in love with Korean War Veteran, Donald Crotty and married him on Thursday, August 12th, 1948 in Northwood, Iowa. They began their adventure together by migrating west to Washington, taking up residency in New Mexico, Utah, North Dakota and Michigan before finding their way back to Minnesota. They started a dairy farm of their own in Hillman, where Amelia created a warm and loving home for her husband and their ten children: Ronald, Steven, Victoria, Mark, Tim, Bryon, Collin, Jason, Valerie and Scott. Amelia successfully maintained a household of 12, managed a thriving dairy farm, and cultivated a fruitful garden while also being involved in the community. She was an active parishioner of Holy Family Church, a diligent first responder for Richardson Township, and a giving member of the VFW. Also a world-traveler, Amelia’s journey’s included Europe, China, Mexico, Hong Kong, and the Caribbean, her favorite visit being with the Pope in Vatican City, Rome, Italy. When she was home, she enjoyed bowling, shopping, crocheting, baking, canning, flower gardening and yes, four-wheeling! Somehow, Amelia also found time to become a retail sales associate, grocery store manager, nurse’s aid, and an amazing grandmother to her eleven grandchildren: Joel, Charity, Steven, Alex, Bailey, Christopher, Maggie, Kaylene, Taylor, Justin and Payton. Amelia accomplished more in 75 years, 2 months, and 24 days, than most people could in two lifetimes. She was loved and adored by all she came in contact with. She left this earth on Monday, October 29th, 2007 at 12:36pm, but she will forever remain the brilliant diamond of her family dynasty. “Her light shines greater than the brightest star; she is our beacon of love, our radiant angel – being loved by you, mom, is our greatest blessing…”
