Bob Holig

Bob Holig, 67 year old resident of Swanville, MN passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Ash River Trail in Orr, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Swanville, MN with Father Ron Dockendorf officiating. A visitation will be held from 4-8 P.M. on Friday and from 10-11 A.M. on Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Swanville, MN. Bob was born November 22, 1946 in Little Falls, MN to the late Joseph and Marjorie (Canfield) Holig. He grew up and attended school in Swanville, MN, graduating from Swanville High School with the Class of 1964. After graduation he enrolled at St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN. He later enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard and was activated to the U.S. Army. Bob was united in marriage to Sandy Carlson on September 14, 1968 in Minneapolis, MN. He began his career at the First State Bank of Swanville in 1972, later purchasing the bank from his father in 1982. In 1989 Bob and Sandy built Shooters Pub and ran the business together until 2002. Bob truly loved his hometown of Swanville, and was always willing to help the community in any way possible. Throughout his life, he was active with the Swanville Lions, volunteer fire department, and the Swanville American Legion. Bob was known as a charming and charismatic personality – an extrovert in the truest sense – always ensuring fun was had by all. Family was his number one priority. He rarely missed the chance to watch his grandson play football or the opportunity to steel a hug from the granddaughters he cherished. Bob was an avid outdoorsman, loving hunting and boating in the north woods of Minnesota, and collector of all things interesting. Mostly Bob will be remembered for always going the extra mile (or two, or three) to make everything he touched a little bit more special. He was a true believer in the philosophy that more really is more. More fun, more detail, more stuff, more love, more time. Bob is survived by wife of 46 years Sandy Holig of Swanville, MN; children, John (Tricia Wuchko) Holig of Randall, MN and Janene (Adrienne Milan) Holig of Minneapolis, MN; sister, Mary (Jim) Nunke of Clearwater, MN; grandchildren, Jalen Wuchko, Stella Holig & Clara Holig; and Chopper. Bob was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Marjorie Holig; son, Joseph “Josh” Holig; and sister, Ann Holig-LaFond.
