Daniel B. Witt

Daniel B. Witt, 87 year old resident of Little Falls, MN passed away at his home in Little Falls, MN on Thursday, January 19, 2012. Memorial services for Dan Witt will be held Friday (Jan. 27) at 11 AM at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls with Rev. Nate Bjorge officiating. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 10-11 AM at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls. Military rites will be with the Little Falls VFW Post #1112. Daniel B. Witt was born April 25, 1924 near Flensburg, MN to the late Alex & Pauline ‘Witucki’ Witt. He grew up in the Flensburg area and attended country school. Upon completing his schooling, he worked as a farm hand in southern Minnesota. Dan enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Nov. 5, 1948 and serve on the U.S.S. Manderson Ship until his honorable discharge on Sept. 15, 1953. While in the Navy, Dan was united in marriage to Shirley Rasmussen. After his discharge the couple settled in St. Paul, MN where Dan worked as a policeman for the City of St. Paul for 6 years. At the same time, he was self-employed working as a general contractor. The couple moved to Little Falls, MN in 1962 and later divorced. He began the Du-Witt Construction Co. working as a general contractor for over 45 years. He built many homes in the Riverview area in Little Falls and also built or remodeled many commercial buildings in central Minnesota. Dan was united in marriage to Judy Kalahar on October 22, 1983 in Little Falls, MN He enjoyed deer hunting. Dan was always the camp cook preparing the game that was harvested. He also enjoyed fishing in the summer and winter, goose, duck and pheasant hunting. Dan went on many trips to Canada fishing, was an avid sports fan, liked to read and discuss politics. Dan was a life member of the Little Falls VFW Post #1112. Daniel B. Witt is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Susan ‘Jerry’ Kulus of Ft. Ripley, MN; Gary ‘Jeanne’ Witt of Little Falls, MN; Dale Witt of Little Falls, MN; Jeff ‘Peggie’ Witt of Little Falls, MN; Karl ‘Theresa’ Kalahar of Albertville, MN; Kelly ‘Mike Newcomb’ Kalahar of Becker, MN and Kristin ‘Chris’ Vnuk of Oak Grove, MN; siblings, Eleanor Czech of Little Falls, MN, Jerome (Ann) Witt of Little Falls, MN, and Betty (Pat) Wheeler of Little Falls, MN; and 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Witt, Pauline & Al Chichon; sister, Rose Bobick; and brother-in-law, John Czech.
