Jean L. Garry, 89 year old resident of Little Falls, MN passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Highland Senior Living in Little Falls, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie with Father Matthew Langager officiating. Burial will take place in St. Adelberts Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. A visitation will be held from 9-10:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie. Funeral arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN. Jean Lavon Garry was born March 8, 1927 in Madison, SD to Lola and Bryan Petree. She graduated from Salem High School (SD), and was active in 4H and a decorated sprinter. After high school, she attended General Beadle College in Madison, SD, and graduated from South Dakota State in Brookings with a degree in Business Administration. On February 24, 1947, she married Howard Garry and moved to Little Falls, MN, where she ran the household while Howard taught agriculture. Jean was an avid card player. Bridge, Whist, and Euchre were her games of choice, but she would play them all. She enjoyed flowers of all kind, but African violets and peonies were her favorites. She never met a flower she didn’t like. Jean’s knack for the artsy-crafty, was put to good use as a Cub Scout Den Leader for a number of years. Jean and Howard liked to entertain and Jean took special delight in intricate centerpieces and decorations, as well as the latest recipes to be tried. She usually made her own modifications to ingredients that made it difficult for others to replicate her tasty desserts when she shared her recipes. In June of 2005, Jean had a successful live donor kidney transplant, compliments of her niece, Kathy DenOtter. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Bryan and Lola Petree; husband of 66 years, Howard; daughter, Michele (Shelly); and sister, Margorie Jacobson. She is survived by one son, Tim (Kathy) of Forest Lake, MN; grandsons Michael (Megan) Garry of Brainerd, MN, and Sean (Charlotte, special friend) of Bismarck, ND, as well as many nephews and nieces, friends in Little Falls, South Dakota, and Fort Meyers, FL. A special note of gratitude to Highland Senior Living in Little Falls, and Horizon Hospice in Pierz for their dedicated, kind, loving, and respectful care given to Jean for the last 3 years.
