Laura L. Carlson

Laura was born September 30, 1914 in Clough Township, Morrison County, MN to the late Charles & Jennie (Gilbert) Nichols. The Nichols family farm was purchased by the US Government for the creation of Camp Ripley, requiring the family to move to Parker Township in Morrison County. Laura grew up in Parker Township and attended country school through the eight grade. As a young girl, she enjoyed herding cattle on her horse. Laura was united in marriage to Gustaf ‘Gust’ C. Carlson on October 28, 1933 at her home in Parker Township. The couple dairy farmed on the Carlson family farm from 1933 until retiring in 1984 and moving to Little Falls, MN. On Nov. 9, 1987, Gust passed away. Laura continued to reside in Little Falls until 1996 when she moved to Arden Hills, MN to be near her family. Laura enjoyed sewing, gardening, arranging flowers and reading. She was a wonderful cook. A few of her specialties were chicken and noodles and making divinity candy at Christmas time. For years at Christmas time, Laura would get Gust to bring the hay wagon out, set up a step-ladder on the hay rack and Laura would put lights on a very tall blue spruce tree at their home. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a former member of the Randall Presbyterian church. Laura L. Carlson is survived by her son, Ronald (Nashoma) Carlson of Halcyon, CA: daughters, Diane (Roger) Miller of Blaine, MN; Kathleen (Jeffrey) Petersen of Rosemount, MN and Susan (Mark) Johnson of Urbandale, IA; grandchildren, Scott (Pamela) Miller, Lee Michael Miller, Stephanie Petersen-Spence and husband, Andrew Spence, Christopher Johnson & Laura Johnson; great grandchildren, Allyson, Nathan and Megan Laura Miller; step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Gustaf; parents; brothers, Edwin & Francis (Bill) Nichols; sisters, Lydia MacDonald & Gladys Lightner, granddaughter, Jennifer Petersen. Honorary Casketbearers: Roger Miller, Jeffrey Petersen , Mark Johnson & Nashoma Carlson. Casketbearers will be Scott Miller, Pamela Miller, Lee Michael Miller, Andrew Spence, Stephanie Petersen-Spence, Christopher Johnson, Laura Johnson.
