Leonard Kasper

Leonard H. Kasper, 86 year old resident of Pierz, MN passed away Monday, November 13, 2006 at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 17 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz with Father Gerald Dalseth officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM on Thursday evening at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz and from 9-10 AM on Friday morning also at the funeral chapel. Thursday evening prayer services include a Christain Mothers rosary at 4:30 PM, parish prayers at 5:30 PM, and Knights of Columbus Offices of the Dead at 7:30 PM. Leonard was born on February 22, 1920 in Granite Township, Morrison County to the late Theodore and Mary (Schmidtbauer) Kasper. He grew up on the family farm in Granite Township, where he also attended country school. Leonard was united in marriage to Eleanor Gruber on May 6, 1946 at St. John Nepomunk Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN. The couple lived on the Kasper farm where they raised their 16 children. Leonard farmed, sold Pioneer seeds for 20 years, and did custom threshing for area farmers. He retired from farming in 1985. Leonard enjoyed riding bike, gardening, and playing cards. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St Joseph’s Catholic Church where he served as an usher, eucharist minister, server, and a member of the choir. Leonard is survived by his wife, Eleanor Kasper of Pierz; children, Bernadette (Dennis) Knudson of Phoenix, AZ, Mary Kasper of Rockville, MD, Linda (Tom) Schlichting of Rice, MN, Louella (Bryon) Gohl of Ham Lake, MN, Al (Gerry) Kasper of Pierz, MN, Sylvia (Eldon) LeBlanc of Little Falls, MN, Susan (Bernard) Otremba of Pierz, MN, Barbara (William) Scholl of Rosemont, MN, David (LuAnn) Kasper of Pierz, MN, Robert (Carol) Kasper of Deerwood, MN, Shiela (Cletus) Fischer of Lastrup, MN, James (Susan) Kasper of Pierz, MN, Francis Kasper of Pierz, MN, Joseph (Kerri) Kasper of Pierz, MN, Theodore Kasper of Pierz, MN; son-law-law, Allen Zens of Milaca, MN; sister, and Viola Gruber of Sartell, MN.
