Luverne A. Nelson

Luverne A. Nelson, 93-year-old resident of Brooklyn Center, MN passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at the Maranatha Care Center in Brooklyn Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on August 14, 2026, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Brooklyn Center, MN, at 11:00 A.M., with Father John Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 A.M., at the church prior to the Mass. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, MN. Caring for Luverne and her family is the LeMieur Funeral Home in Little Falls. Luverne was born on July 14, 1932, in Holdingford, MN, to the late Joseph and Clara (Hartung) Kociemba. She grew up and attended school in St. Cloud, MN. She was united in marriage to Donald Eugene Nelson, on November 9, 1950, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud, MN. They lived most of their life in Brooklyn Center, MN. Luverne worked as a typist clerk in downtown Minneapolis, and after they built a new house in Brooklyn Center, she then devoted herself to being a full-time homemaker and a devoted, hands-on mother, caring for her family around the clock. After years of homemaking and raising her 5 children, Luverne built a career as an Avon Representative, where she applied all her beauty talks, skills, and charisma to all. She worked very hard and was ranked top in her sales. After retirement, Luverne & Don traveled the country visiting states like Alaska, Texas, Arizona, Missouri, and enjoyed many cruises together. They eventually purchased a home in Fort Myers, FL. Luverne enjoyed entertaining, fishing, bowling, baking, canning, gambling, bingo, and spending time with her family and friends. Luverne and Don celebrated 72 years of marriage before Don passed on March 27, 2022. Luverne is survived by her children, (Daughter-in-Law) Candice Nelson of Buxton, ME, (Son) Duane Nelson of Waukesha, WI, (Son) Don and Patti Nelson of Elk River, MN, (Son) Terry and Jodi Nelson, of Little Falls, MN, and (Daughter) Lori and Chad Charboneau of Brooklyn Park, MN; 15 Grandchildren, many Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren. Luverne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; her son, Steve Nelson; and her daughter-in-law, Judy Nelson.
