Marjorie Johnson

Marjorie Johnson was born on June 24, 1929 in Hillman, Minnesota to Clarence and Jesse Hoskins. She was one of 10 children who grew up on the farm in Hillman with her siblings, Vernon, Lyle, Esther, Helen, Howard, Allen, Robert, Alfred and Jerry. She married Glenn Johnson on March 4, 1950 in Onamia, MN and they made their home at the farm on Peavy Lake in Hillman. They were blessed with 8 children, including two sets of twins. They worked hard on the farm and later, Marjorie held several jobs outside the home, including dental receptionist. As the children migrated one by one to Alaska, Glenn, and then Marjorie, eventually followed. They made a home in Fairbanks where they lived for 25 years. But the long winters in Alaska, the lure of the lake and the call of the loons, and a yearning for local family brought them back to Minnesota in 2001, where they made a new home on Peavy Lake. Here Marjorie enjoyed visits from and cooking for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who lived both near and far. She made cookies for the grandkids, sewed pajamas, coats, mittens and quilts. Marjorie loved music and played both the piano and the guitar. She loved gardening, especially flowers and in summer her homes, both in Alaska and Minnesota were a floral showplace. She also loved feeding the birds, and their home on the lake was a sanctuary for them. Marjorie is survived by Glenn, her husband of 61 years; siblings, Esther Fritz and Alfred and Jerry Hoskins; children, Randy of North Pole, Alaska, Bill (Julie), Lee (Debby) and Melba (Norm) Piispanen of Fairbanks, Alaska, Shelby (Lee) Leonard of New Mexico, and Dale (Nancy), Myra (Ken) Utterson and Lynn (Mark) Crotty of Hillman, Minnesota, Grandchildren Sarah Fletcher, Daniel Leonard, Jessica Entwistle, Justin Johnson, Tyler and Trevor Oester, Aryn Bedrick, and Steven, Alex and Maggie Crotty; Great grandchildren Melea Bedrick, Cason Entwistle and Siri Kveene, along with a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence & Jesse Hoskins; brothers, Lyle, Vernon, Howard, Allen & Robert; and her sister, Helen.
