R. Kenneth Severson

R. Kenneth Severson, 89 year old resident of Little Falls, MN passed away Thursday, February 23, 2012 at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Little Falls with Rev. Don Ludemann officiating. Burial will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Military Honors will be conducted by the Little Falls VFW Post #1112 and American Legion Post #46. Ken was born February 3, 1923 in Rush City, Minnesota, the late John & Eureka (Nelson) Severson. He graduated from Rush City High School in 1940. Ken served in the United States Army as a radar technician from 1943-1946 and was stationed in the Philippines during WWII. Ken was united in marriage to Shirley Sommer on August 31, 1947 in Rush City. The couple moved to Braham, MN where they started their family and where he first worked with his brother and cousin in the hardware business. The family moved to Little Falls in 1955 when Ken purchased his own hardware store. He later worked with Jack Raymond in real estate, and together they established the Key Row Development and the Belle Pine Development. Ken later worked for Community Federal Savings and Loan as a vice president in charge of loans and appraisals, retiring in 1987. Ken especially enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, fishing, boating and playing on the Mississippi River. He belonged to the Lions Club, the VFW, and the American Legion. Ken was active in Boy Scouts and was especially proud of receiving the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a long- time member of Bethel Lutheran Church and served on the church council. Ken is survived by his wife, Shirley of Little Falls, MN; three children, David (Trudy) Severson of Owatonna, MN, Mary (Kevin) Prince of Pawley’s Island, SC; and Jane Morris of Key Biscayne, FL; four grandchildren, Meghan (Joe) Johnson, Erik (Kyra) Severson, Ryan Morris, and Sean Morris; two great granddaughters, Ella Grace Johnson and Vivian Sommer Johnson. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and two brothers.
