Rose Johnson

Rose Anna Gerlach Johnson, 98 year old resident of Upsala, MN passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls, MN. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala, MN. A private burial service will be held at a later date. Friends may call from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the church. Funeral arrangements are through the Shelley Funeral Chapel serving Upsala, MN. Rose was born on August 4, 1911 in Chokio, MN to the late Martin and Mary Stein. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chokio, MN. Rose attended and graduated from Chokio High School. She was united in marriage to Harold Gerlach on May 15, 1934 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chokio, MN. The couple moved to Upsala, MN in the fall of 1940. Harold passed away June 26, 1941. Rose was an active and devoted member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala, MN. She was very active in teaching Bible school, Sunday school, and a member of the Ladies Aide. Rose was united in marriage to Victor Johnson on July 25, 1952 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala, MN. She worked as a cook for many years at Camp Lebanon Bible Camp in Upsala, MN. Her greatest joy in life was raising and caring for her five children. She also enjoyed and dearly loved her many grandchildren, great-grand children and great-great grandchildren. Rose will be remembered as a prayer warrior by her family and close friends. She faithfully prayed for them and they often gave her prayer requests. Rose will be missed dearly by her family but they are happy for her that she went peacefully to be with her Savior Jesus. Rose is survived by her son, John (Marilyn) Gerlach of Upsala, MN; daughters, Marianne Johnson of Upsala, MN, June McCoy of Little Falls, MN, Joyce (Glen) Swanson of Upsala, MN, and Marlys (John) Atkinson of Upsala, MN; step-son, Harvey (June) Johnson of Manassas, VA; sisters, Mary Lempka of Alexandria, MN, and Helen Tarnowski of Forsyth, MO; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren. Rose is preceded in death by, husbands, Harold Gerlach and Victor Johnson; sons-in-law, Harold McCoy and Harold Johnson; grandchildren, Terry Johnson, Bradley Johnson, Baby Boy Johnson, and Kirstin Johnson; step-son, Dewey Johnson; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
