Rosemary "Rosie" Girtz

Rosemary “Rosie” Girtz, age 85 of Royalton, MN, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Heritage Home in Foley, MN, as a result of complications associated with Alzheimer’s Disease. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 10th at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman, MN. Father Kenneth Popp will officiate and burial will be at a later date in St. Michael’s Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Monday and 1 hour prior to the mass on Tuesday at the church. Christian Mothers will pray the rosary at 4 PM, followed by Parish Prayers at 7 PM on Monday. Arrangements are with Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN. Rosemary “Rosie” Kathryn (Guck) Girtz was born to August and Kathryn Guck in Little Falls, MN on September 24, 1928. After attending school, she worked at Munsingwear as a seamstress and also part time as a waitress. She married Ervin Girtz from Pierz, MN on August 29, 1950 in Rice, MN. They moved to a farm near Little Rock, MN two years later, where they raised their 12 children. Rosemary was a member of the Christian Mothers in St. Michael’s Church in Buckman, MN for over 50 years. Rosemary spent her life working hard on the farm, raising her children and welcoming everyone into her home with her wonderful cooking and hospitality. She loved working in her garden, canning, cooking, baking, and working with animals on the farm. Rosemary was also by Ervin’s side when he played his music dance jobs. Rosemary and Ervin traveled to Texas every winter for almost 20 years. Most of all, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had many special friends that knew her as “Momma Rosie”. Having people around is what she cherished most. She is survived by her husband Ervin of Little Rock, MN, her 12 children, Don of Sauk Rapids, MN, and special friend Diane Huben, Shorty of Little Rock, MN, and special friend Erica Englund, Patsy Mueller of Bend, OR, Marilyn of Sauk Rapids, MN, Linda (Dale) Dirks of Rice, MN, Elaine Legatt of Rice, MN, and special friend Lee Schnobrich, Lee (Sandy) of Little Rock, MN, Darlene (Randy) Bednar of Morrill, MN, Dale (Stacey) of Little Rock, MN, Bernie of Rice, MN, Nancy (Dale) DeVriendt of Rice, MN, Jody(Craig) Bailey of Big Lake, MN, sisters Theresa (John) Duea, Doris Sullivan, Lucille Hovland, Shirley (Cyril) Schwalbe, 28 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Raymond Guck; brother-in-laws, Andy Hovland and HenrySullivan.
