Sister Mary Cordelia Bloch

Sister Mary Cordelia (Pauline) Bloch, age 84 a resident of the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the St. Francis Convent in Little Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis Convent on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. Friends may call at St. Francis Convent on Friday, August 3, from 4:00 – 8:30 p.m. and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Saturday. Arrangements are by Shelley Funeral Chapel, Little Falls. Sister Cordelia was born on November 2, 1927, in Albany, Minn. She was the third oldest child of the late Henry and Margaret (Keppers) Bloch. She was accepted as a Franciscan Sister of Little Falls, Minn., on August 12, 1947. She made her first profession of vows on August 12, 1949, and final vows on August 12, 1952. She was a Franciscan Sister for 64 years. Sister Cordelia was most happy when she could help someone who was in real need. She said, “People who are poor know how to wait. They wait for a check. They wait for help. It’s something we all can learn here in America: to learn to wait.” She enjoyed meeting people and listening to their stories. She was a very approachable person who had a ready smile and loved to have a good time. She was an excellent caregiver to infants as well as elderly people. In her spare time she enjoyed bird and squirrel watching and hastened to see that they had something to eat. Her favorite season was spring when all of creation comes alive with new life. Of all the culinary talents she had and put to good use, she enjoyed baking bread the most. Sister Cordelia ministered as a laundress, cook, housekeeper, child welfare worker, hospitality employee, food service supervisor, baker, home health care giver and director of Clothes Review. She served in Moorhead, Richmond, Little Falls, St. Cloud, Prior Lake, Duluth, Onamia, Sauk Rapids, St. Paul and Alexandria, Minn.; Cudahy and Milwaukee, Wisc.; Prestonsburg and David, Ky.; and Sonoma, Calif. Sister Cordelia was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, Christine (Douvier) Bloch; brothers Sylvester, Lawrence, Gilbert, Leroy and infant twins Richard and Ralph; sister Dorothy Boecker. Survivors include Hildegard (Al) Wiechman, Belgrade; Leona (John) Magner, Buffalo; Sister Loretta, St. Cloud; Donald (Beatrice), Avon; Beatrice (Larry) Britz, Little Falls; Juliana Fernandez, Traverse City, Mich.; Werner (Carol), Albany; Mary Jane (Manuel) Phillip, Woodruff, Wisc.; Eileen (Jim) Dwyer, Fort Ripley, Delores, St. Louis Park; nieces and nephews and her Franciscan Community. Donations to Franciscan Sisters Ministries preferred.
